This is a really simple minded question -- but it is escaping me. I do have a Venmo account and I use it with friends to pay one another for different items. I am having difficulty getting my mind around how this works in a Bachelor party, for example, to buy drinks for the groom. Have people already contributed to fund the Venmo account? Or is there an accounting afterwards, and everyone contributes? I'm obviously missing something in how this should work.

From lurking in the wedding subs on Reddit, it just depends on the group and what plans were laid out. Some detail it ahead of time that if you are going to join this event, your share will be X. And then if a person can't make it or drops out there's all kinds of drama over the rest of the group having to make up that share or the drop-out still having to pay even though they didn't attend. And then there's other groups where one person, usually the Best Man or Maid of Honor, will pay for everything on one card for simplicity, and then everyone else is expected to transfer funds to them after. There is no general rule. But a night out at the bar isn't seemingly a thing anymore. Now, Bachelorette / Bachelor "parties" are three-day weekends to a destination involving airfare, lodging, decorations, food & beverages etc all of which the bride or groom is expected to be covered for by the others. It's really outrageous IMO.

If you are talking about QR type of buttons and such, I think it's more for when people are out at bars and if strangers want to send money to buy drinks. I've also seen people put their venmo names on cars on their way to Vegas for bachelor/bachelorette 😂

I only use it with friends, so I don't personally know? I feel like the only way they could do anything though is if they tried to send a money request to the person and they were dumb enough to actually send the money? Or when they send fake money and then ask for it back? I really don't know though.
