Can a category be set to Direct Only?

I was hopeful that by not uploading a cover image for a category that it would essentially be hidden from an average visitor. And it almost is. I have discovered that the category still appears in the Category drop down on my stores public page.

I did see the hide option in the Edit section for categories, but it notes next to it that it will only be able to be seen by me. And that defeats the purpose that I wanted to use the category for.

I guess that I will have to use a collection. If memory serves me correctly it is possible. I'll have to do a search in the forum as I think the method has been discussed...

If anyone knows of a way to make that category disappear from the category tree in my public page, please chime in.

So it appears that a Collection can't truly be set to direct only. It almost can.

It would be really great if Z could make a method so that either a category or a collection could be set to direct only. Then we would not have to try and find workarounds to accomplish that goal. It seems like there is a need being expressed by multiple designers for it.

Still hopeful that someone might know how to make the category disappear from the category tree on the public page...

If you are logged in you will still be able to see your hidden categories as far as I believe.

Removing a cover image and editing the Category Visibility to 'Hide' (and waiting for the site to catch up), will hide it eventually I'm pretty sure.

Unless it's all changed and it's a bug (which is a possibility)

I do have a hidden category and it does not show up in the public Category drop down. That means I can't link to it. I want to be able to link to it but not have it show in my stores category drop down menu.
