Best Practice for QR Codes for Customer Use

I would like to start putting QR codes on some of my wedding products. I have looked through the market place and I see it being done two different ways. 1. The designer uses the QR code available in the Zazzle design tool and makes it a template space for the URL. 2. They put an image of a QR code that they template as an image so the customer has to upload their own QR code that they apparently can get somewhere on the web. My question is which one would be considered "best practice"? I think that #1 would be simpler for everyone involved, but if that's the case why are some people using #2? Any insight that you can provide will really be appreciated.

My guess is the products with an image of a QR code were created prior to the release of the one available in the design tool. I had a few of them (option #2) and was able to replace the product with option #1 which is much easier for the customer to create their own QR code.

Your guess is what correct in my case. I was thrilled when I saw Zazzle offer that new option. That's much easier for a customer to create the QR code here rather than go outside zazzle to make one.
