Add Possibility to easily mark cover images as AI generated content according to new AI Law

It would be amazing if we could bulk add it to our products and I imagine this as a star with text overlay or badge. Is it possible?

If I remember correctly from a previous thread, the new AI law only applies to the use of AI models, so if no AI generated people are shown on a cover photo, then I think you don’t need to mark it.

But, you’d have to read the law for yourself and then decide. (I have not read it.)

I also seem to remember that the new law was a particular state law, and not a national law. But, again, review the law carefully and then decide.

Unfortunately I have some AI generated people on my cover images, as well as on products as placeholder photos. And law covers people seeing image located in New York (people that look at the image) so we do not have control over this part.

Before the law went into effect, I deleted all cover photos, pins, instagram posts - anything that used AI. Thankfully I didn’t have that much. Now I have included the disclaimer “Cover Photo AI Generated” on all the new Zazzle promotional stuff and other disclaimers on other platforms. BTW the law requires this for all AI content, not just content with humans. I actually like adding my own. I can make it harmonious with the rest of my design. I do this on all Pinterest Pins and Instagram content. If I had hundreds or thousands of items needing update, I would probably feel differently and hope for automation

Where are you adding that disclaimer? On your product description?

I am adding it right on the cover photo or Pinterest pin. The law states that it has to be close to what people are looking at. I am paraphrasing that. Basically you aren’t allowed to hide it. It has to be obvious. I had placed it on the lower right corner of Pinterest Pins, but when I looked a them, Pinterest has put some of their graphics in that spot and covered it up, So I moved it to the center bottom. Placing it in a tag or in the description isn’t close enough to comply. At least in my opinion and that of my lawyer.

Thanks, Nelda.

Pinterest has checkboxes to check when posting (or you can do it later by editing pins) where you can check that image or peoplr on image are AI generated. It is easily seen on pins. I was hoping Zazzle could make the same.

I agree. The best fix would be if Zazzle @James  added an option to check a box “AI Generated Model Used” in the merchandising option, so we can go back and edit posted products using AI generated placeholder photos with people or body parts". It then would show up on the Zazzle product image, just like the foil message does. The cover images, we can fix. The products with placeholder photos are definitely advertising and need a clear message on the image or product both in the product view but even more importantly on the thumbnail view.

I agree that the best way for everyone would be an automated addition of the text, like the foil/glitter pop ups. A simple checkbox.  Otherwise there are going to be floods of creators trying to update individual items, and/or cover photos.

This is definitely something Zazzle needs to handle on their end, so every product is labeled in a clear, consistent way.

(And if you’re not going to do it, tell us that you’re not going to do it instead of leaving us wondering.)

I agree, there are already too many products using AI on the Zazzle marketplace; it would help us all to have an easy way to label them as is. Something like the foil/glitter pop up, or a tab we could check like the one used on Pinterest.

I agree as well. Please Zazzle, add an option where a pop-up box would appear to say that photo template photos are ai generated, just as the “this is not real foil, wood, etc.” also pops up when triggered by a title, tag or description. As Elke said, cover mockups can be taken care of. Switching out the ai photo templates for “real” photos would be beyond staggering for some. And the easier fix, putting a line of text on placeholder photos, however, will not work, due to the fact that photos may be cropped differently on different products. The amount of work to make & then upload separate scaled template photos for each product in a collection would be staggering. Please help us out here.

I’m wondering how the New York State Attorney General is going to enforce worldwide use of AI cover photos. There is no private right of action on this law, so enforcement has to come from New York State. I’m just wondering if it was truly meant to cover hands holding an invitation or a placeholder image that gets replaced in a Christmas card. It seems like it may have been more to stop deep fakes and fraud.

But since it will be very difficult for one US state to enforce on the entire internet, I’m guessing it won’t get appealed or tested in court for us to know.

I would be very grateful if someone from Zazzle team let us know if they are planning to add this possibility or not. Official response was not so straightforward for me. I still hope that I would not have to delete 500 products with AI generated placeholder images. If I knew Zazzle is not planning to help us - I would do it straight away. If there are some plans - I will take the risk and wait.

Yes, it would still be necessary to make something more usable, like the official in the EU proposed use of this AI logo clickable here, if possible. Or to have it as an overlay so that, when we upload an image, we can simply tick a box like “created with AI”. That way, we could handle this in a more consistent way.
With mockups, many of us are already using AI in some form. With designs too. And I honestly don’t know how seriously everyone is taking it, because it feels like almost nobody is using the right keywords or tags for it, but you can clearly see a flood of AI‑generated images already on Zazzle.

The platform can’t really get out of this responsibility. If someone from India uploads content here, you can block their account, but in the end it will be Zazzle that is held accountable if things are not handled in a legally compliant way.

I would really like us to handle this equally strictly for everyone and build it directly into the platform, so that with a single click we can always correctly mark “created with AI”, and have that label applied across all products, levels and images.

The opposite approach – leaving all the responsibility to us – means we all have to invest time, delete every affected image and product, upload newly labelled images, and reconnect everything. All while we could use that time to design new work and do more meaningful things. A bit of service support here, so that we can all stay legally on the safe side, would really help everyone on the platform.

It’s covered by the Share and Like icons. Top left would be better.

I’m using Microsoft’s auto added AI generated label, and that’s where it lands by default. Since it’s automatic, I’m not able to move it, and I’m not going to manually adjust hundreds of mockups or buy extra software just to reposition a disclosure tag. For now, having the label present is better than not having anything at all, even if Zazzle’s Share/Like buttons partially cover it. The real solution is for Zazzle to implement an official “AI modified” tag the same way Pinterest does. That would keep everything consistent across the platform and remove the burden from creators entirely. Oh and when I look at the public home view > not signed in there is no obstruction on the ai disclosure @ColsCreations
