Many must know that you can create a pin (only if you upload your own photo) and then Tag products. It results in a tray of linked products called “Shop the look”. This is a great way to expand your Pin to one that showcases your range. Plus you will be posting links to those products (using clean links from the share button on Zazzle) that should get you a referral also… but do they? Does anyone know the answer?
I look forward to seeing what others say. I use this feature – the link option – for a couple of pins a day, especially when it might help a customer to know related items are available. Some examples are wedding and birthday suites, matching golf putter and driver covers, poker cards and poker chips, etc.
I do know my links go into a “Products you tagged” board that Pinterest creates, and the rf= code is part of the link, along with the usual Pinterest tracking info. I tested this by clicking one of my links in that board. In theory, I think this means a referral is possible. I haven’t received any referrals in the three months since using this feature, however, so I don’t have any actual results to relay.
I don’t do this for every pin, as it’s time consuming. I also wonder if Pinterest adds these items to my daily pin count, which might potentially trigger spam filters if I post too many per day. I typically add 3 or fewer related pins to 2 pins a day. I did notice impressions dropped on a couple of days when I used this feature for multiple pins, and they improved when I limited the feature’s use, but they might not have been correlated.
I’m pretty sure we don’t have RF codes on the clean links we make with the “Share” button - we are relying on a tracking Pixel. This is why I am worried that my efforts are in vein. Maybe I should use the RF code to be sure. If we had more transparency on where our linkovers come from we could test the system to see if it worked. At least with the RF code I could check the URL at the top of the screen.
The handful of “Shop This Look” items that I checked were items I affiliated from others so they did have tracking codes. I do share your concern, however, about lack of tranparency on referrals for our own products, especially with no rf code when using the Share tool. I’d love to see more details in our earnings reports. Thanks!
