If a designer creates a new custom order and sends it as a direct link to the customer, are we still charged a marketing fee? It seems that according to Zazzle we are. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
NEW! Q: Are Direct-Only Products subject to the Marketing Royalty Fee?
A: If a Referred Sale of a Direct-Only Product is made during the first Referral window, the Marketing Royalty Fee would apply to that sale.
Hi @SORS - It depends on how the customer arrived to Zazzle. If they clicked on a a Zazzle email, sponsored social media post, Google ad etc within the Referral window, the sale would be subject to a Marketing Royalty Fee.
@SORS it sounds like the best bet is to write the link on a postcard, mail it to your direct customer, and ask the customer to type the link in and view your product that way. I guess you could also telephone your direct customer and speak the link over the phone as the customer is typing the link into the website. Sounds like if there is any kind of email usage involved, Zazzle becomes the third party, for some reason, and takes the fee.
BUT what if that customer had been browsing Zazzle and already has a cookie set that seem to be able to be overwritten for 14 days… As Heather says, “It depends on how the customer arrives to Zazzle within the Referral Window.”
Will Zazzle address the concerns of designers who are willing to do custom designs for Zazzle customers, but would like to be compensated for their efforts?
Even if I were to have the customer type in the direct link, there very well may be Zazzle cookies attached to their computer which would result in a 3rd party sale. Please correct me if I’m wrong.
Thank you for confirming that my feedback has been forwarded to the appropriate team. Given the seriousness of the concerns raised, I would appreciate knowing when I might expect a formal response or update. Your timely attention to this matter is sincerely appreciated.
Agreed. But she also said that “if they clicked on an email”, it’s going to be a third party sale. Which of course is absurd. I hope the owners of the place are catching on that the Creators need clarity on this important matter.
I think @Heather meant an email from Zazzle. I don’t think that you sending a direct link to someone via email would attach any sort of 3rd party referrer. That being said, there’s no way to know if the person already has some sort of cookie or flag set from ads they might have seen or other activity not directly related to your contact with them. So at the moment you cannot be assured of getting the referral even if you write the url on a piece of paper and hand it to them.
