I received a message from a customer and need guidance on how to proceed.
“Hi! The print shop replied with this when I sent them the PDFs “ could the files please be provided 5.25x7.25 (5x7 plus .125” bleed added to each edge) – files are currently 5.13x7.13” …. Are you able to send me the correct sizing PDF? Thank you!”
Geez, the impertinence. Maybe you can inform them that your design is your copyright and they should order through Zazzle if they want to use it? And it’s probably quite common that people are doing this too. 🙄
It seems that the same problem exists with print shops all over the world… When they don’t like the measurements, they complain about the file, the program you used, or anything else. That’s not a problem they can’t solve… Thousands of digital downloads must have been sent to print shops with the same measurements and it hasn’t been an issue.
Did they pay for a digital download? If not, I would ignore this request. If yes, I would send them a resized file.
How would you resize it? Would you just shrink the content a bit to leave more room around the edges? I guess it depends on the design, but I’m not sure how I would accomplish that!
I would resize the graphic in Photoshop.
I think since the customer has the .pdf that they purchased the digital download, which is by design intended for people to be able to print off themselves.
Yes, they purchased the file and sent it to the print shop. The print shop asked for the bleed details.
I asked the client if they could send me the files, and I offered to help with resizing them in Photoshop.
