On an existing product I need to redo, I can’t access the locked image so I can edit/change it on the new design tool.
On the left side - Layers - Select Image - click on the lock
Locked images in the new design tool are no longer selectable, preventing access to image attributes needed when creating color variations.
Until a few days ago with the new design tool, it was possible to select a locked image and access Selling Options to remove the “Make this template an object” option if needed. As of March 2, locked images are no longer selectable and the lock icon no longer appears. Attempting to select them only shows a prohibition symbol (red circle with a diagonal line), preventing any interaction.
Access to locked images is essential when creating color variations of the same design , since we often need to temporarily unlock an image to view attributes such as rotation values, filters, opacity, and other adjustments in order to accurately replicate the design settings.
At the moment, I’m working on a wedding suite collection with additional color variations and cannot continue building the remaining products until this is resolved. Because this functionality is part of the core workflow for creating coordinated collections, any assistance from the team in reviewing this behavior would be greatly appreciated.
When the new design tool was first rolled out, the “Lock” feature was altered. Previously, locking an object meant it was inaccessible to customers.
Now, in the new tool, customers can unlock “locked” objects through the “Layers” panel. To permanently disable interaction with an object, you must use the “Disable All Object Interaction” toggle. However, designs created before the new design tool was rolled out last year, have had all their previously “Locked” objects automatically converted to “Disable All Object Interaction” objects, This is a big problem, because designers can’t access them! I hope this is going to change, because it’s crucial for us to access older designs so that we can transfer them to new products etc.
This is the original post where Heather explains about “Lock” and “Disable All Object Interaction” :

Thank you, SheaPrints. I was aware of Heather’s post, but SmilinEyes and I are referring to the most recent change/version on the new Design Tool. Until about two days ago, we were able to unlock an image using the “selling Options” and removing the “Make this template an object” option. This is not an option anymore (at least on the version I have right now) as there is no way to select the image and access its “Selling Options”!
This is blocking my ability to continue building the remaining products from the collection. I’m afraid I have to stop working!
Any assistance from the technical team is greatly appreciated.
Can you link me to a product that exhibits this behavior?
Hi, Scott. Here is the link to one of the products showing this problem: https://www.zazzle.com/photo_elegant_and_minimal_blue_wedding_save_the_date-256324620540657080?dz=164f94a7-7681-4b1b-8046-cf986186d2b5
Thanks for taking a look at this!
What GabrielaG said. Locked images in the new design tool are no longer selectable.
Hi @Scott / Technical Team,
I wanted to follow up on this issue, as it has now been over a week, and it is still preventing me from continuing work on existing designs.
Issue:
When accessing previously created templates, images that were locked within those designs can no longer be accessed, and their attributes are no longer visible (such as the image name or whether the image was rotated, flipped, or had filters applied).
This appears to be a reproducible workflow issue when attempting to access images that were previously locked within existing templates.
Impact:
Without access to these locked images, it is not possible to continue developing color-theme collections or assist customers who request edits to earlier designs. Since many existing designs rely on previously locked assets, restoring access to these images is essential for maintaining and expanding established collections.
At the moment, this issue is effectively blocking my ability to continue working on a color-theme variation from an existing template collection.
Given the amount of time this issue has been ongoing, I would greatly appreciate any update on its status. If a full fix is not yet available, guidance on a TEMPORARY WORKAROUND would be extremely helpful so that work can resume while the issue is being addressed.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. I look forward to your update.
*Sorry to add this in two threads, but this is too important, and I didn’t want to risk getting it lost in an older thread. Newer thread link here
Zazzle team,
I am also having this issue that I want to go in and unlock images and can’t. Here is an example product.

Thanks for any updates!
I am also having the same issue with unlocking text on my product: https://www.zazzle.com/catholic_wedding_favors_holy_cards_marriage_cana-240389862685363268
Hi! It looks like we can unlock them now! HOWEVER - I can’t delete or replace the image! I can *only* move it! Scott or any Zazzle anyone I’m happy to directly message examples. This is really REALLY hampering my process.
UPDATE - I think I might be a little bit of an idiot because it works for me now. Figured it out!
It works now! Thank you!
Yes! This is wonderful news—thank you so much for addressing this! It’s working beautifully now, and I truly appreciate the fix.
I’ve tested several designs and can now successfully unlock images, move them, and delete them without any issues. However, I did notice one small detail that may still need attention: the image file name does not appear for images that were previously locked. It seems the file name is only visible for images that were not locked before.
Having access to the image file name is especially important for designers when revisiting designs or helping customers with matching items, as collections often include multiple similar images with subtle variations. Being able to identify the exact file used makes a big difference in providing accurate support.
Thank you again for your continued improvements and support—we truly appreciate it!
