I do not understand exaclty what you mean, they are common words. I think everybody can say “Merry Christmas”. However, for example for design, copyright can be invalid when designing some basic, common shape. It is needed just a little good thinking…

My answer could seems “Poor” and non professional, basically its very long to explane, but when you will go into details you will understand. For example, there are not problems of copyrights about this design Polite Black Monochrome Vertical Stripes Leggings | Zazzle but it is suggested not copy/replace other works. When I designed this simple design as well, for istance, I had the idea without looking to anything else.
