Cropping is permanently set to scale in the new design tool. There is no way to turn off aspect ratio. Freeform does not work.
I cannot crop any of my images. I never used aspect ratio in the old design tool when cropping images, for this reason, but there was an option to turn it on or off.
There is no way to work with shapes, specifically rectangles, with the aspect ratio permanently on.
If you had “Lock aspect ratio” turned on in the old tool at the time when they switched you over, there’s no way to turn it off in the new tool, even using “Freeform.” You can try finding a product that still uses the old tool, and turn it off there, but this is a huge flaw in the new tool for sure.
I can’t find a product that uses the old tool. And here’s the other thing. There are times when I need aspect ratio and times when I don’t. This is a huge flaw.
Can you provide a few example products that contain images or shapes that you cannot size as you wish?
The good news is that I think I see what you’re talking about. I logged in to your account and made a quick change and now I can adjust images into whatever aspect ratio. Please try again, because you might be all set. (I fully understand that this change does not help everyone. More on that later.)
The bad news is that I did log in to your account and made some changes to some of your published products to see how things behave. I didn’t publish anything. Feel free to head in to your Saved Designs and delete anything that you don’t recognize (the updates should have happened around 1pm Pacific time today).
I’ll ask why there isn’t an aspect ratio setting in the new tool, and work on a wider-scale fix.
@Scott Hi Scott, thank you. Now, however, the photo on the front of the invitation is cut off at the top. I went in to work with it and found confirmation of another issue I reported, which is… older designs were created using masks. Especially so with arches. When the previously masked arched front photo is selected on this invitation, there is no option to unmask or ungroup. When I click to activate cropping, it doesn’t activate. So for products with older designs, the unmask, ungroup and crop tools do not work. This will make it impossible for designers to edit older designs or correct issues found in older designs. It may also affect how the customer interacts with the images, because at the very least it will cut off their photos too. Here are screen shots.
