Customer feedback on significantly modified designs!

I’ve noticed that sometimes when customers leave unsatisfied feedback, it’s actually about significant changes or additions they’ve made themselves rather than the original design! That can be frustrating, especially since the feedback is shown with the original product thumbnail and link. It’s not so bad when a customer’s photo is attached, then others can see it’s not the same design, but that’s not always the case.

I was wondering if it might be possible, for heavily modified designs, to link the feedback to a blank version of the product instead? It would be helpful to future customers, and designers!

What timing!  Just a few days ago, I made a sale that a customer significantly modified, and it wasn’t pretty.  The customer put a photo and other stuff far over the printing edge.  I’m just waiting for a poor review when it wasn’t my fault at all.  Zazzle refuses to delete unfair and harmful reviews based on their total “transparency” policy and to help the customer.  Of course, allowing false reviews and misleading customers are the exact opposite of transparency and helping customers.  We’re not even allowed to offer a response.  I suggested to have a small number of responses like “the seller does not print, manufacture or ship the item”, etc but to no avail.  You have a great idea, but based on Zazzle’s implacable and inexplicable position on reviews, I’m not holding my breath.

I’m curious how you were able to see the customer’s edits on the final product?

I clicked on the product - I’m not sure if it was in my royalties or summary - somewhere in the royalties area.  I saw the product, and I was horrified, thinking I somehow did it in a rush.  But when I saw my published product, it was completely different - the way I intended.  Edited to add - I didn’t see the customer’s personal edits like photo, names, etc.  I saw what I think was the customer’s change of card size.  The person seemed to have chosen a smaller size.  When the standard for place cards was square, I frequently saw the changed sale result of rounded.

@whimsywhim  I get that a lot as well, but although the size has been changed, you cannot see what else the customer did to personalize it. They might have resized or moved things around so the finished product will be perfectly fine. Well, in their eyes, anyways!  The majority of times a customer does something like that with one of my products, I do not get a return. Although there’re other times where I do. (It’s especially frustrating when they turn an invite into a sticker or something & I already have that product available in that collection. Oh well.)

I agree, I have them all the time with no regular issues, and from the ‘preview’ we can see, there is no way they wouldn’t have moved things around haha.  The only time I had an issue review wise was when a customer transferred a photo business card to a notepad and then complained there was no space to write.:see_no_evil_monkey: That’s why I’ve always wondered if people think Zazzle edits items after the fact like ‘oh I don’t have to make it perfect, they will do it’.

@jophb   I agree. I think some customers assume Zazzle will fix issues before printing. With the new design tool making things so accessible, we’ll likely see more significant modifications. It would be great if these could be identified during the feedback stage. I recently had some feedback that the text and photos were too faint. The original design actually has dark gray text and no photos! Frustrating 😣!

I hope so because what I saw was horrendous.  Then, again, I’m not that lucky.  😀

Oh yes, one of my 1-star negative reviews is like your OG post. It was a photo template originally, that they replaced the photos with Irish themed clip art and image of text, and the review is about the color being off.

Sometimes it is just so difficult to please a customer. I just had a one star review of a clock with as comment that it was small. They ordered the small size clock  …
