I use Dark Mode settings on my desk top pc everywhere available because it’s easier on my old eyes (and I have reduced the brightness of pc in general.) The two main places I visit that lack a true “dark mode” (meaning the background white of the web page allows me to choose to turn it grayish) is Zazzle and Pinterest. I saw Dark Mode was in the Design Tool settings and tried it and it JUST turned the product template space dark gray, such as a 5 x 7 card, BUT NOT the design tool board behind it. That stayed white. This makes no sense really. THAT is not how dark mode is supposed to work. It’s the design board behind the product template that needs to turn a shade of gray; not the template. Since I’ll be adding photos or color background and certainly need to see how the black text looks on the design, the template does NOT need to be gray. In my own graphic design program the board is light gray, but the template itself stays white, which is perfect.)
If you’re offering gray mode in the design tool settings, why not make it work properly on the tool background?
Hmm, the Design Tool artboard turns dark for me when I enable dark mode….
if you’re doing a design in white, (to print on a dark coloured t-shirt for instance), you will need to turn on dark mode, otherwise you won’t be able to see it as you work on the design.
I can see just the template turning dark is useful for that. That makes sense. So then “dark mode” in the design tools setting is not for visual comfort. (since absolutely only my template turns dark gray if I click it and the artboard behind it remains white.)
Yes - it is so you can see what you’re doing with white text and imagery, (or any light colours). It’s purely for that practical reason.
I’ve marked Nigel’s answer as the solution. The ‘Dark Mode’ is there to help with seeing white elements on a white background.
I’ll pass along the suggestion to add a Dark Mode.
