I just looked at a previous sale I made which earned me a nice self-referral of $23.41. At the time I was so excited getting the referral that I didn’t pay attention to the fact that Zazzle still deducted a 45% marketing fee from my royalties. Makes no sense to me because Zazzle obviously didn’t market this product.
Can someone explain the reason?

You received the ‘marketing royalty fee’ in your referral. That is why it is probably a 45% referral instead of the old 15%.
I can’t really read that because it’s tiny and blurry even on my desktop. But if it’s something like $68 for the order, then 45% would be around $30. You max out at 45% total possible for the order, between the referral and royalty combined. Which between your royalty and referral seems to also be about $30. I remember seeing some kind of explanation last year from Zazzle that explained the math. I believe it was on the original announcement of how the new ambassador would work.

It’s all about Self Referral Goals now and as @jophb said - your referral/royalty are combined to achieve the 45% department “self referral goal”
@WBartworks I think they should have called the Marketing Royalty Fee something else - as rarely there is any marketing done by z themselves on a self referral - you yourself are doing all the promotion/marketing.
But it is what it is
