Did any of sold out products ever returned on Zazzle?

Did any of sold out products ever returned on Zazzle? From your experience.

I miss too a few sold out products, a lovely style tshirt, I used to sell and now the tissue paper for gifts. Do you think the tissue paper will return for holidays? I really wish it will.

I honestly don’t even know where to begin listing all of this.
There are items that go out of stock constantly and then predictably return. Tissue paper is a classic example: it’s routinely out of stock, and then it’s just as routinely back.

With apparel, it’s honestly driving me up the wall at this point. So often, the popular colors that people actually want to buy are unavailable. What’s truly infuriating is that if a specific color runs out, the entire product essentially goes invisible—even if it’s readily available in the exact same size and a practically identical shade. Trying to track and troubleshoot that across more than a hundred listings is exhausting, and it feels completely counterproductive.

Then there are items that vanished and simply never returned, with zero communication about what happened. I really miss the pacifiers. They used to sell well for me, but they’ve been gone for years now. I just don’t get it, because the customer demand is clearly still there.
Other times, you can tell an item was probably just a limited-run experiment from the start—the whole Fair Trade lineup felt like that.

So there really isn’t one clear-cut answer. High-demand items usually do get restocked eventually. Some might just be facing broader supply chain shortages. Others linger in limbo forever because content is content, and Zazzle is probably waiting to see if it’s worth bringing them back before pulling the plug entirely.

@doggenhaus Thank you for such detailed explanation. I dreaded none ever returned and missed some beautiful and like you said in customer demand products, for example like art in a frame, framed art no longer available at all and I have so many. T-shirts colours I too noticed the popular colours sold out, I too wish we knew the reasons why just out of curiosity to understand how Zazzle make this decision.

As for framed prints, I really wonder how well they hold up during shipping. If I had to manufacture everything myself, there are plenty of products I simply wouldn’t offer if return rates were too high or fulfillment logistics were a constant headache. Shipping is definitely a real factor here; there’s no point in offering an item if it regularly arrives broken. Shipping a framed piece is a whole different beast compared to mailing a flat sheet of paper.
Then again, after so many years in e-commerce, reliable packaging solutions for framed art shouldn’t be rocket science. You could easily factor that into shipping rates or overall pricing.
What really frustrates me, though, is when a product suddenly goes invisible just because one specific color is out of stock—even when an almost identical shade is readily available. It’s such a massive waste of time. I already spend way too much time hunting down which items are out of stock and trying to figure out if there’s a viable alternative. With apparel, this is an ongoing nightmare!
A little automated logic would be so easy to implement: if XL is sold out, suggest L? If black is gone, default to navy? Recommending an alternative instead of making the entire listing disappear would make such a huge difference.

@doggenhaus “Recommending an alternative instead of making the entire listing disappear would make such a huge difference.”

That’s a good idea. I wonder why the listing would disappear, may be write this idea in suggestions, you know.

I personally come across disappeared items by accident and then redesign say that t-shirt in another style but same colour.

The framed art is probably something that Zazzle don’t find a profitable thing to do, may be even because of the shipping problems that you described, too much of a headache in comparison with the profit.

Makes you feel saddened when favourite products you choose to make, disappear one day, after you put so much hard work in them.

I keep hoping zazzle will bring back more colors for shirts and styles but instead they are always new product alert here is a new invitation. It’s shaped like a triangle for some reason.

I came from spreadshirt to zazzle and was … a t-shirt fan before. But here … don’t ask. Zazzle is a paper world. But just now, the most colors are not available. Hurts!

@TShirtfort Yes that would be awesome. I wholeheartedly agree with that. Also a good idea for Suggestions board in hopes they will hear you and everyone who wants that. I’ll support this idea. T-shirts are always popular with customers and I find that people do come for cool one of a kind t-shirts to Zazzle. I personally bought two t-shirts from my store and was happy with them, people asked where I got them and wanted to get them too.

@doggenhaus I know Spreadshirt it’s the most popular POD in Europe . I used to have a store there too. Let’s give Zazzle suggestion to have more tshirt colours and styles. I know one woman tshirt style in particular no longer has any colours, every tshirt and every piece of clothing have the very popular and beautiful colour sold out sadly. I agree with you guys. And I agree that Zazzle is known for its personalization paper products, which I cannot make now in new design tool, it’s not mobile friendly and I don’t know how to do that there anymore.

A lot of times when something goes out of stock then is discontinued, it’s something to do with the supplier. I believe Z does a lot of their own paper products but things like pacifiers and yoga pants are handled by 3rd party people contracted with Z. Things can happen to the 3rd party outside of Z like increased costs or just having to close down, so they stop doing business with Z. Or the contract they signed with Z is up, and its a choice for Z to offer a renewal or the 3rd party could decide they tried it and it wasn’t for them.

But others are right, things do go in and out of stock if popular. Z can only sell as long as the 3rd party can keep up, sometimes they run out of stock too during busy seasons and its hard to source.

ETA: We used to be able to see what 3rd party company did the printing for yoga pants and other products readily on their product page but I think they changed or took it off, someone feel free to correct me if wrong, but I haven’t seen them in a long time.

@Simply_Designed_Gift Thank you for your reply, it sounds it’s not as simple for Zazzle and there are all kind of reasons with different outcome.

Many of them do not return. There were some over the years that would come back and be gone again not long afterward. I sure hope license plates come back.

@kashmier I remember license plates, didn’t know they are already gone.

I noticed beautiful light pink and light blue colours in women t-shirts always sold out.

They are my favourite colours and it always make me sigh whenever I see how pretty it would look like and I can’t make it.

Computer mice were gone, came back and were gone pretty quick again.

I specifically remember the paper cups. I kept one of my designed ones that I had sold, and held on to it for no reason. I think maybe several months had passed, and now we have the paper cups.

@LauraLee That’s actually a good idea. Awesome for you.:two_hearts:

@kashmier That would be fun to design, I never seen them.
