Do you have one royalty rate for all products or different for all?
I myself have now separate rate for all products and for clothing. I reduced my royalty rate, it used to be same rate for all my products. Went down from 25% on all products to 14.9% on all products and 10% for clothing.
I have royalties all over the place. I reason with myself with questions like, “Who would ever pay this much money for this postcard?” Many of my postcards take a lot of time to create but a picture of a pig or something just slapped up on the front really isn’t worth the higher price so I drop it down to 10 or even 5 percent which is basically giving it away at cost. I go through my categories regularly and pick and choose different rates for single items. Or sometimes I just pick a whole category and drop all the products down like I did before Christmas. I’d never dropped rates before Christmas but sales were horrible last year. Actually the zazzle referral rate took more money. But sadly lowering the rate didn’t help at all. I had the worst year since I started 13 years ago. So I’m putting them back up. It’s such a crazy game isn’t it? I guess you just trial and error it.

In your experience with Z. lowering down rate didn’t make a difference? I am myself just observing now literally giving away my clothing but like you said nobody is buying as of yet that I created them. I guess they wouldn’t buy it at 25% these are supporting Ukraine t-shirts and sweatshirts and some others. I am going to observe it till I find a rate that will be most acceptable for customers and myself. For now I am giving away literally this type of product at 2$ profit leaving me a dollar after Z. would take the other half. And for now with many views and no sale it does look like it is not about the price. Mystery to me. Yes an interesting subject of cat and mouse.
I have 50 percent on postcards, my main product. It’s the only way I could cancel the loss of royalty. I missed increasing royalty on a few and I remember the sinking feeling of getting 7 cents royalty on a postcard. I remember joining Zazzle way back 14 years ago. Back then my Christmas sales were great and then on top of royalties we all got volume bonuses. I was over the moon. The big Zazzle draw at that time was that we were able to add any royalty up to 99 percent sans penalty. People fled from Cafe Press (whom I seem to remember had capped the royalties at 10 percent,) and joined this hip newer Zazzle POD store. Royalties were royalties not a royalty minus Zazzle referrals and a penalty for over 10 percent royalties. Hmm. It feels like Zazzle is slowly heating up the pan of water in which we frogs are swimming. But I stick around. For me it’s become a game. I love games.
Rant over but I say jack those royalties up and make products you love. It they don’t sell, redesign or delete. Don’t play the royalty game. I’ve sold several hundreds of some of my postcards. No idea why. But I’ve never seen lower royalties increase sales. Full disclosure. I don’t make thousands of dollars a month and often give bad advice.

@Veselka_Store I keep them all the same. I would love to be more flexible in that regard though. As an example I thought I would maybe start an item very low so it would gain traction and once it has some sales I would slightly increase the price and so on. But after more consideration I rejected that plan BECAUSE if you raise your royalties your zRank tanks. So my idea would not really benefit me. I’m right now a zRank 6 with little hope to climb up anymore but a six does me better than a five or four or even less.
