eeking Clarity: Product-Specific Feature Gaps (Color Swatches & Post-Publication Editing)

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working on a large-scale collection for the 2026 Semiquincentennialtargeted at the business community (keychains, buttons, patches, and magnets). I’m running into some fierce frustrations with the inconsistency of the design tools and am hoping a veteran creator or staff member can clear a few things up.

  1. The “Color Swatch” / Design Groups Discrepancy I am trying to offer my customers the ability to toggle between colors (Red/White/Blue) using the clickable swatches on a single product page.
  • The Problem: When I open the Layers panel for keychains, buttons, or magnets, the “Add Design Group” option is completely missing from the bottom of the panel.
  • The Question: Is this feature restricted by Department ID? I see some sellers using swatches for things like invitations, but it seems unavailable for my current products. Is this a “Pro-Seller” only feature, or is it only enabled for specific “Newer” product types? If so, is there a list of which products actually support it?
  1. Backend “Grouping” vs. Product Swatches I have tried using the “Actions > Group” method in the backend to link my published items.
  • The Problem: It doesn’t seem to trigger the “swatch” behavior on the storefront, and often the group request doesn’t even take effect.
  • The Question: Is there a specific method to group existing, already-published items into one “swatch-enabled” listing, or is that functionally impossible once a product has its own URL?
  1. Post-Publication Editing Logic I’ve noticed a strange inconsistency with editing items after they are live.
  • The Observation: I can easily go back and edit/change attributes for Ornaments after they are published, but this option seems non-existent for almost everything else in my shop.
  • The Question: Why is “live editing” available for some departments and not others? Is there a roll-out timeline for when this will be available for keychains, buttons, and patches? It is incredibly inefficient to have to delete and re-post a product just to fix a minor color or text template issue.
  1. The Need for a Feature Matrix Is there a definitive guide or a “Product Feature Matrix” that tells us which features (Design Groups, Live Editing, etc.) work with which products? It feels like we are designing in the dark, and it’s a massive waste of time to build templates for a feature that turns out to be disabled for that specific product.

Any insights on how to navigate these “hidden” rules would be greatly appreciated. I’m trying to build a professional experience for my customers, but the platform’s current “hit-or-miss” approach makes it very difficult.

Thanks in advance

That should have said “Seeking” and not “eeking” …aaahhh

Contrary to what people are saying here I think the design editor leaves alot to be desired . it is missing so many simple things

I have spent hours tacking its drawbacks and missing functions rather than designing

So many simple tools and information is missing from the editor that makes designing such an uphill struggle.

For instance sizing , and design sizes. I copied an embroidery design from a female tee to a male one and while the female one had only a flat mockup and the design looked ok ,the male garment had both a flat mockup where the size was the same relative to the garment but on the mockup of a man wearing the Tee the design was ginormous and looked wrong. Hence i cannot design for the mens Tee as I dont know which mockup to trust and now I am worried the size on the actual female tee I have published will be skewed like the mockup is

Ther are no sizes , no grids, no realtive transform buttons

Its an absolute joke how poor the editor tools are - if you do simple stuff I dare say its ok but why it doesnt include simple sizing of the embroidery design area and sizes of the graphic in relation to the desing area is beyond me.

I pushed to stock a shop but when I finish curent cycle and review I think I may not continue with Zazzle or just post the odd design now and again as a past time. Its not really an platform for a singlehanded designer who tries to look professional and has one hand tied behind their back

Discontinued sending Pintrest to Zazzle too as not converting and not worth the extra workload given when I did send people I did not get the commission
