Float topic to top?

What does floating a topic to the top do and why would it be done?

I have always wondered what this FLOAT FOR CURRENT USER BUTTON means and does. Is that what you are talking about?

Apparently I’m too ignorant to even understand the question! Where are you seeing an option to float a topic to the top?

It’s in the Options menu, not in the conversation box, but a little to the upper right of that.

Ha! It took me a while to figure out what you were talking about. Apparently I tend to miss things that are obvious to others, because I never saw that menu before!

@Barbara  if this forum works like the eBay forums it basically means it will pin this topic to the top for you.  you will be the only one that sees it at the top of this forum section and it only works in the section of the forums that the conversation is already in.  Hope this helps.  😀

Exactly right. It lets you pin something to the top / create a “stickie”, just for yourself.

So, why the devil didn’t they say “pin”?! I was envisioning the kind of boxed info some web sites have that follows you wherever you go, reminiscent of deer flies that circle your head, making you go insane.

(I can never figure out which Reply button to hit so I end up down at the bottom.)

It only let me float/pin one topic to the top in a board. 🙁 Wish I could pin several at the top of certain boards.

I just noticed too that a topic I had floated to the top of one board it still set to floated (since the only option is to unfloat it), but it isn’t at the top of that board any longer after leaving and coming back to the forum. 🙁

It’s not working at all for me today. Tried it on random posts in three different forums and while I get the confirmation that the topic is now floated, it doesn’t move to the top, not even after refreshing or leaving and coming back. It worked last week when I first tried it to see what it did so maybe they are tinkering with the feature today.
