Gradient Fade from White to Clear png Images Suddenly Showing odd Border artifact in Design Tool

Not sure what’s going on here, but all of a sudden, png images that use a gradient to fade to clear are showing a strange border in the design tool. They look fine in the preview images. I’ve sold literally THOUSANDS of products using these images without a single complaint, and the image looks fine in other software.

Here’s the image in Gimp (with a white layer behind the png):

Pretty sure the problem is not with the artwork since this artifact has never appeared before. The artifact is apparent on all png images that use a gradient to fade from white to transparent. Here’s an example with a simple image fading from white to clear: (gradients fading from black to clear seem fine)

Oh yes, I see what you mean @Cat  here’s a screenshot from one of mine https://www.zazzle.com/modern_script_2_photos_overlay_qr_code_wedding_invitation-256883764206072017

Hoping this is fixed soon :crossed_fingers:

I just checked out your product, and it looks like the problem depends on which version of the editor you get. In this version it looks fine:

In this version, not so much:

Oy vay! Well, I guess the fact that the problem is showing up on your products too means that it’s likely not something with my artwork. I hope they fix it soon.

@Cat  Thanks so much for checking, I’m really confused with all the different beta editors going on! How do you manage to find the various editors? Different browsers? I saw one when logged out, before I was aware of this latest issue, as I’d read in another forum post re issues for customers adding their photos when a gradient was in place, and sure enough n the editor I got, uploading a photo just replaced the gradient with it rather than the image itself.  I hope this is all sorted out soon. It’s very disheartening.

I don’t really have a clue what I’m doing in terms of looking at the other editors. I use Windows 11 and primarily I use the Edge browser. So, when I was signed in using Edge, I clicked the link you posted and when I clicked on personalize, it gave me what’s shown in the first screen shot - the one where you have a form on the left and a link to click to get to the full editor.

For the second one I pasted the link into Chrome (where I’m not signed in) and it gave me the all-in-one editor pictured in the second screen shot. I think there are more versions out there, and I’m super confused about it all.

@Marcia  Here are the details I promised in the other thread. I’m seeing this issue on this product of yours too: https://www.zazzle.com/let_it_snow_somewhere_else_travel_photo_real_gold_foil_holiday_card-256121006812705843

The artifact appears in all of the versions of the design tool that I’ve been able to test.

ETA: I checked some more and it’s on this one too:

It appears that it’s not product specific, it’s anything with a white to clear gradient.

I did some more checking on random products. It seems like it’s only white gradient overlays that are impacted. This one is especially weird with the transparent layer looking like it’s black instead of white at the bottom:

Here are links so some more random products (not mine) with the same issue:

However, this product, which has overlays in a variety of different colors seems fine (for all the colors)

Thanks @Cat   I’m glad it’s not just me totally confused! :joy:

@Cat  commented on your other response as well. So not good! I’m hoping that since it appears correctly on the product page, this time the design tool preview is wrong? On the “let it snow” real foil card, it especially makes no sense since the artifact shows like it’s on the foil layer, yet it isn’t on that layer. And the binder makes absolutely no sense as well!
Has a moderator commented on any of this yet? I don’t see how I’m going to be making any additional sales on these previously decently selling products. Oh yeah, I guess the overlay glitch doesn’t really matter when customers can’t figure out how to change the photo with the new design tool…seriously!

I dunno. I just discovered this yesterday (Saturday) so no mods have chimed in yet - I don’t expect a response until tomorrow. Pretty sure it’s just a display error in the design tool(s) but now that the default (I think) is to put people directly into the new design tool, I don’t see how anyone would buy any of these products.

I’m super frustrated at the moment. For the rose images (the very first one I posted) I suppose I could put a white layer underneath and save them as jpegs - but then I’d have to switch out all of the images (thousands of products), and the replace design feature is on the fritz at the moment too! I just feel like I’m spending all of my time chasing down problems instead of doing any actual work.

I think I need to punt for the moment and hope that Z will fix this one quickly.

Yep, I see it too on my products as well. It seems to be ‘white specific’ because I have a blush pink one, and it does not do it to that.

I’m thinking of buying some gradients which would be put on before entering the Zazzle design – is that similar to what you are having problems with now?   None of them are white . .  what is the white gradient used for?

I’m seeing the same thing on my products with white gradients. It has to be a glitch with the design tool rendering of the image or something.

@VivianD117  Making the photo behind it fade to white so you can place dark text over the image and have it read well.

Thank you — that is clearly a skill I need to learn — does one purchase the gradient or create it?

@VivianD117  Hi Vivian, I created mine in Photoshop

Hi @Cat ,

I’m sorry to hear that you encountered an issue here. I reported the issue to our engineers so we’re looking into it for you.

Thank you for your patience!

@VivianD117  I made all of mine in photoshop as well.

Is there any update on this? It’s really having a negative impact on my sales.
