Both of them look great to me. I didn’t understand your question at first, but now I get it. “Gray filter applied to white designs”. Well, this is supposed to make the images look more natural as if someone is really wearing the printed t-shirt and you take a photo of them. If the white is shown as pure white, it will look like it is shining on the T-shirt, emitting its own light, you know? So that’s why they apply the “gray filter” to the white colors on these mockups.
I don’t know how much into illustration and painting you are, but you can learn more about it by studying the topics: Color Theory, and Light And Shading.
There’s no shine. One is the correct color of the print and one is not. At least I hope white is printing white. And the black mock up is unusable. It also misrepresents the proper layout of the design. It looks like the print is off center which is false so I’m pretty sure that’s an oversight/mistake that needs to be redone.
