If you’ve been considering working from home for extra income, affiliate marketing may be something you have considered. Zazzle has an associate program that allows members to earn a massive 15% on any sales generated from their eligible referrals.

Can I do this … I have no experience?

  • Do you have a few extra hours per week to devote to writing and sharing online ?
  • Do you have a Facebook page, a website, a blog, Twitter, Instagram, or another form of social media presence?

If you answered YES to these questions,  you are in a great position to start working from home as an affiliate marketer for Zazzle. 

What is an affiliate marketer?

As well as being a Creator here at Zazzle I am also an affiliate marketer. As an affiliate marketer, if I promote (share) someone else’s product (or my own) on my blogs, Twitter or Facebook using special sharing links… I may earn a referral fee if a sale results from one of the eligible links I shared. This sale does not need to be for the product I shared. As long as a sale resulted from my link, I can earn a referral fee.

Is this a get-rich-quick scheme?

Yikes No!

This is most emphatically NOT a get-rich-quick scheme. If you ever become wealthy, it will likely be slowly.  If you’re good at online marketing and social media, you could make referrals much faster. Success depends on how much time you are willing to devote and a learning curve as you discover what works and what does not.

How do I decide what to promote?

There are many hundreds of thousands of products on Zazzle. You can select a niche you have a special interest in, or choose a broader product type. Niches usually work best as you can then work to find and target that niches unique audience and potential customer base. You could start a group for sharing details re that niche, a Pinterest board or other niche-specific blog or social media page. If you have knowledge and expertise in that niche even better. Share your own knowledge freely to attract your target audience and while they’re enjoying your free content they may make a purchase from your discreetly promoted products. 

I invite YOU to promote MY products, which I know sell well. I am a Gold Pro Creative and most of my sales are 3rd party, which means other affiliates are referring my items and they are making a generous 15% on each sale. I say generous because 15% is more than I make in royalties as the Designer of those items! I have many niches, but you can choose as many different Creators as you like to promote. There are no limits on what and who you can promote on Zazzle.

What’s the catch?

There is no fee to pay. Signing up is free. You can set up a free blog with those free blogging platforms that allow commercial use ( Blogger, Wix). Social media such as Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram are great vehicles for sharing your affiliate links.

There are rules to sharing affiliate links. Any blog, website and even a social media post needs to declare that affiliate links are within the content. This can be a short message for blogs that is above the content or as a ‘#ad’ on social media posts. Youtube videos and TikTok should give a mention at the start of the video and in any written details where links are being published. Read up on the rules before sharing any affiliate links.

NOTE: If you are referring your own products on Zazzle and are part of the promoter program you can earn 35% on all referrals. Attached are my own self-referrals on my own products for 31st Dec 2021 and 1st Jan 2022. 

But that’s not all!

In addition to this 35% referral fee ON TOP of that we earn whatever % royalty we set. As that can be no less than 5% we stand to make at least 40% on referred sales of our own products.

Discussion on Promoting via Pinterest

Many people use Pinterest to refer Zazzle products. 

Please share any lessons you may have gained re how best to do this, in reply to this comment!

My own observations are as follows:

Pinterest likes original images , so images created by YOU and perhaps added to a blog or website (from where they are linked to Zazzle products with your referral ID) or added directly to Pinterest then linked from there to your Zazzle product, seems (my own opinion) to generate more views.

Pinterest ‘friendly’ pins are those that meet the size requirements and feature a ‘headline’ as well as graphics. A headline that introduced a theme, an idea, a story for which the viewer is compelled to click through to ‘read more, or see more’.

Example Pins I have created based on that premise (linked to related collection) :

The idea is you can ‘ADD’ these pins to Pinterest and then ‘ADD’ you Zazzle affiliate link  OR you can add the images to a blog or website and add your website or blog link. Whichever you feel is preferable or both.

Designers Can Create These Pins For Their Affiliates - but why?

I create these pins and grant permission to affiliates sharing my products to use them in their promotions - in the same way Zazzle provides banners in their associate centre - HERE   for the exact same reason. I want them to show my products off to their best advantage as well as providing an easily accessible resource for affiliates of my products,

As a Creator, anything you can do to assist affiliates in their promotional efforts will benefit your sales. It is a win win.

First time responding on this forum (it looks great! just hope I can find responses [used to be a bit difficult])

This is all great info (started off from the Affiliate Commissions thread).

My question, that sent me on this very informative journey is: if I include and promote other products from other designers in my collections, online, etc., they don’t have to be in the Affiliate Program, anything goes, correct?

Hi Linda,

yes you are correct, you can promote whoever you like. You do not need any Zazzler’s permission to promote them. There is a thread that offers a list of those who ‘want’ to be promoted. As an affiliate marketer myself, I don’t actually look at that thread - I’d rather do my own searches for products that fit my content or ‘ask’ for submissions in a specific niche.

Hello! Thank you very much for sharing important information. Recently I decided to promote zazzle products on pinterest, mine and also other designer’s products. I already have pinned several items. Some products directly from zazzle and other from canva where I created pins. Inside my posts there’s a description and tags about the products. The affiliate link is not visible inside my description, but its above the title. Its not quite clear to me. Should I put #ad in my description tags? Or mention in each pin I create or my profile about me pinterest section that I use affiliate links? I am so new at this and most of what I read in the rules, I dont understand completely or at all. I could use your help. And thank you again for sharing.

Good morning, and thank you so much for your response. I will read this article. For the moment I use only pinterest. I am very new at this, so I am sure I am doing something wrong all the time. I started to pin some products, right? Having no idea of what disclose means, so when I read your post, I did a little research, to see some examples, went back to my pins and fixed some of it, many of them are my designs, and also started to promote other designer’s work. All my pins link directly to zazzle products. None of them have actual links inside the description. The thing is, when I create my own pins or boards I have the option to fix them and add a disclosure inside the description. When I share a product on pinterest from Z site, there is no option to add any disclosure. There’s something I can not get. For sure. Also just to see some other promoters examples, I checked some pinterest profiles but none of them have any disclosure. I am so confused.

Yes, sharing direct from Zazzle is confusing but I think (maybe a zazz mod can help here) when posting what is clearly a product (ie the user is under no illusion as to what they are clicking through to …a product) which you are not claiming to have reviewed etc. falls outside the need to add #ad. However, we could add a line in board or profile descriptions. meanwhile re the promoter program there are no affiliate links added when sharing from Zazzle. I will check into this some more. 

This is definitely something we can all benefit from knowing and thank you for raising the issue so we can explore it some more.

EDIT: I have just remembered I know a Pinterest employee I can perhaps ask! I will seek him out. He is also a POD artist so he will have a personal interest in this too.

Given the prominence this thread has in search engines I feel it appropriate I update it regarding the current status of earning affiliate income via Zazzle.

As you can see from above my referrals were multiple self referrals daily which reflected the high number of referral traffic I sent to Zazzle.

That is no longer the case. Despite increasingly large amounts of traffic sent to Zazzle my referrals have dropped to 1 or 2 every 3 or 4 days. Which is a huge difference for which there appears to be no rhyme nor reason especially when in many cases I still use my 15% referral code as well as the 35% self referral.

The conversion rate appears to be around 2000 linkovers to generate a single referral. Compared to Other programs which convert with a significantly lower amount of linkovers.

As such I can’t hand on heart promote this any longer as a high converting or effective affiliate program.

In addition I recently became aware that without notice the product pages I was sending my promoter2 links to were being redirected ( those left via social media sites only) to a landing page ( not the product page) which includes 65 other Creator products ( often editors picks) for which no referral can be earned as per the p2 program unless the customer makes am additional choice to select the first product in the list. 1 in 66 chance they will make that decision as oppose to already being there which should to my mind be the case as per the terms of any affiliate contract ie. We the affiliate determine the page we want our links to go to not the brand.

This issue was queried on the forum and off with no response to date. The lack of response is beyond disappointing.

Without full transparency , answers to queries when raised or at least an acknowledgement it is sadly not an affiliate program I can endorse at this present time. Hopefully the tide will change, as previously it was to mind the best affiliate program there was.

Meanwhile I have Covid so please forgive any deficit in detail, reference links or written style.

Those viewing this thread should be aware that there have been changes that affect Zazzle referrals and as a result my self-referrals are now down to one referral every few days in stark contrast to what is shown above, due largely ( I believe) to a redirect for all links shared via social media (details here).
