I’ve been using my Samsung Tablet, and also various Samsung Smartphones that I’ve owned over the years (the type that you can write and draw on) for my designs, etc. For Samsung users we use the S-Pen (stylus pens) to draw, paint, and to write “directly” on the touchscreen whether for Samsung Tablets or our Samsung Smartphones (that have that capability to act like a tablet), and for the Apple users they use their pencil on their touchscreen of their iPad.
Not everyone has a separate “physical” keyboard or mouse for their tablets whether Samsung or Apple, and no, you cannot use the on-board digital keyboard for shortcuts whether on the tablet or smartphone, it doesn’t work the same way as a separate physical keyboard and mouse for keyboard shortcuts, and you cannot select more than say one template field layer at a time to move layers or to group them within the design tool like you can with a PC keyboard and mouse (though I wish they could), can’t copy and paste without pressing on the screen or, by choosing the Copy and Paste with the S-Pen that’s under Edit in the top bar of the old design tool, or pointing and clicking or right-clicking like with a mouse, or to click and drag corners like you can with a mouse for cropping (but we can use our S-Pens or pencils for touching the screen and dragging corners for resizing or moving something around, etc.) even just with our fingers if you wanted to, without the need for a separate keyboard and mouse.
Note that these are the “same” things that were discussed via the forums a couple of years ago, when they started making “more” changes again to the design tool layout editor that weren’t good (along with those awful thick pink lines we still have), and all of a sudden needing to have a “physical” keyboard and mouse like with a PC after that “update” change back then, in order to do certain functions within the Zazzle design tool editor, which you could no longer do via your tablet or smartphone if you did NOT have a separate “physical” keyboard and mouse.
Back then a lot of us designers wrote that that update negatively effected how we work designing within the design tool with our Samsung and Apple Tablets, and applicable Samsung Smartphones, since we did not have a separate “physical” keyboard and mouse! Then they finally “brought back” the ability to use the design tool layout editor “without” needing a separate keyboard and mouse while using our tablets or smartphones, so everything worked fine again!
But here we are once again…, telling designers all about “keyboard shortcuts” to use and this time we were given a “very long list of keyboard shortcuts” to look at and to try and remember while working within the New design tool layout. I do not understand why this has become an issue again. Whoever made this change with this New design tool layout (that you can currently check the box to enable, or uncheck it to keep the old design tool) is somehow unaware this same thing happend before, and there’s so many comments via the forums about it from back then on this same topic from designer’s who use and work with their touchscreen tablets, and smartphones (that have that write-on capability), and who do NOT have a physical keyboard and mouse. Please kindly fix this issue.
Was wondering, because I’m not quite sure how this new design tool layout affects customers - But are customers also going to be expected to use and remember this new long list of “keyboard shortcuts” in order to get around and all of the tiny icons and hidden things to find to click on to do anything in the New design tool layout, and to edit items and personalize them, and to then go through several pages to get to the item and checkout page? Can’t see that happening. That would be way too frustrating. Plus, they’d need to be on a PC. For any designer’s working on a PC and who wanted to use all of these keyboard shortcuts then that’s another thing if they want to use them, but that sure is a very long list that was given out!
First was the terrible new TOS last April reducing our royalty earnings by about 50% on our designed items sold (from their “blank” items), and now this New design tool layout. This New design tool almost doesn’t look like Zazzle anynore, and is instead starting to look similar to some other companies. Zazzle’s old design tool was always great and a “standout” from the other POD sites over the years! Please let us keep the old design tool that we know and love, and that’s worked fine (and that we still can currently use). Thank you
