"Newest" sort filter for Photo Christmas Cards

Just curious if anyone else is seeing this. I did a search for the term “Photo Christmas Card” and used the “Newest” filter sort. There are a bunch of designs showing up mixed in that are definitely not new. One I see is from 2021 and another from 2023 and they are showing right up at the top with thousands of views. They are lovely designs, but they are definitely not “new”. I first did the search on my phone and then laptop using Chrome and Duck Duck Go and the results still look like this to me. Nothing against any designs that show up ya’ll, just trying to figure out why old designs are showing up at the top of the “Newest” sort and if it is just me seeing these results on my end.

New or newly edited seems to be the same, if I relay on my own products. But this is nothing “new”.

I thought newly edited didn’t bring the product to “Newest” status because the post for sale date remains the same. It just updated the data associated with the new edits. So your saying if you “Modify” a design it shows up under the Newest sort?

If using the Replace Button puts you in the New sort, that is something new. I have used that function for a few years and never had that happen. I haven’t used it recently, so maybe things have changed.

I have used the replace feature and also just refreshed meta data before, But I have never seen any of those designs show back up in the newest sort after doing so. Just trying to wrap my head around why older design are popping up under the “Newest” sort.  I appreciate everyone’s insight on this.

It’s my guess that you’ve probably searched some type of products that are like this “Photo Christmas Card” some days before.  Probably not even in those same search terms, and the algorithm thinks you’re really looking to buy something instead of doing “research”, I’m guessing.  And, that algorithm is trying to push certain products over others, either as proven sellers for Zazzle, or something more relevant to past searches you’ve already done.  And if it’s an AI algorithm, which it most likely is, it’s probably doing a bit of both scenarios at once.  Every time you clicked open certain products, to see the created date it probably added them to your interests.  That’s just my guess. If the cookie holds for 45 days for everyone, it’s possibly storing and using the data collected within the algorithm.

That is very interesting. I did recently update a winter wedding invitation, but not anything to do with photo Christmas cards, until I thought about designing one today. I usually look at both popular and newest. I did click on a few of those products when I was wondering why they were there. But they showed in the newest results before I even clicked on them.
