Please allow us to create digital downloads prior too public release date

Many of us were all set to start creating digital downloaded content before the deadline change. It would be wonderful if we could create our products as they stay hidden from the public so that when this became active we’d be all set to go.

Obviously like the advanced new product scheme we would not be able to promote the products until Zazzle make them public.

We are excited and want to be proactive. :bouquet:

Aren’t they just regular products that will be set to digital? I didn’t see anything about making them totally separate products. You can make the regular products, and keep them hidden.

@Connie I want to make “downloads only” products.

Are download only products going to be offered for sure? I’m only asking because I may have missed that since I haven’t read the entire 100+ post thread regarding downloads yet. I thought the FAQs said they “may consider” offering download only products in the future. Thanks in advance for the clarification.

@DesertSky   That’s what I remember too. I tried to find it but there’s just SOOO much to plow through that I couldn’t find which page it was on.

They’re migrating some of our designs from physical products to digital ones. They’re not creating new ones just digital, at least for now. That’s what I understood.

@Cat  It really is a lot of information to go through, I still haven’t found time to read it all yet. The info I saw (and maybe it’s what you saw too?) is on the FAQ page Zazzle posted, it’s not part of the thread. I just wasn’t sure if Zazzle posted in the thread somewhere that they’ve definitely decided to offer digital only products. Here’s what the FAQ says:

What products will be available for Instant Download? For the initial beta test, Instant Downloads will be available for content on the following print products: Flat Holiday Card, Folded Holiday Card, Invitations, Folded Invitations, Flat Greeting Card, Folded Greeting Card, and Prints. Note: As a Zazzle Creator, you have the opportunity to sell: (a) physical products, and (b) physical and Instant Downloads. _ We may consider the possibility of allowing Creators sell stand-alone Instant Downloads available at some point in the future. _

It makes sense to me that Zazzle would always offer a physical product since they’re a POD company. It seems like an advantage to have that offering, but apparently there are reasons some creators may want to offer only digital downloads on some designs.

@DesertSky  Thanks for digging that up! As far as I know, Zazzle hasn’t weighed in on the topic in the monster huge thread, but I could have missed something. There were a few mentions of the topic in that thread, but the only ones I recall are these:

  1. I got myself confused and thought the section you quoted meant that people had to buy the physical product in order to have the option of the digital download, but I was corrected here:

https://community.zazzle.com/t5/general-zazzle-discussion/instant-download-questions-suggestions-and-feedback/m-p/45359/highlight/true#M6205

  1. I think someone mentioned something about needing a different size/aspect ratio for E-Vites to be optimized for phones, so they were suggesting a stand-alone download for that.

  2. And someone else said something about offering “graphic packs” (I think that was the term they used.) I assume that’s like selling artwork similar to what’s done on Creative Market? I’m not sure.

Anyhow, I don’t think Zazzle weighed in on any of those ideas, and since they’ve now pushed back the launch date indefinitely I sorta doubt that they’ll offer a product for download that’s not also available for print any time in the very near future. We’ll see…

@DesertSky Thanks for doing the homework. :rose:

That’s precisely what I’d love seeing too: a digital-only department. Keeping our printed products separate from that would be ideal for me.

I’ve the feeling the date for implementation may have been changed because valid objections were brought up. Zazzle may have gone on pause to think about them plus any logistical issues that popped up in the programming.

Appreciate the interest in being pro-active! I’m unsure if we’re really able to provide any guidance at this point, but I’m happy to pass along this feedback.

Try your desired designs for now on iphone mockups to see if they fit, this will give you a headsup re what you will need to create new designs for re evites etc. I’ve been doing this and some fit lovely and others not so much. My tips would be to keep text to a central column and space out the text so that whatever the invite size the text will fit centrally on the screen with nothing going over the edges. Design graphics would also need to fit in this ‘column’. Allow an inch above and below text/design. If new products are designed like this, they can be public and ready to go or transfer when evites arrive.

@Scott

When Zazzle goes live with this there will be a LOT of designs that do not fit mobiles the way the customer might expect of a digital download offered for ‘sharing digitally’. This could present a customer services refund issue. Hence the sooner we do have a specific design tool for evites the better for all. Just my thoughts having tried various of my own designs to see how they look on devices.

@Scott   Leah’s point is also my concern. As we are told the majority of shoppers come to Z via mobile, we can assume they do everything including send invitations in this fashion as well. Can you add evites templates to our product line at the very least on our wish list please? :face_blowing_a_kiss: TY

Firstly, I’m going to close comments here. I don’t think it would be beneficial to have ongoing conversations in multiple threads. If you have a suggestion then please add it to the megathread that’s in General.

Our early testing of this new feature will probably answer a lot of questions as far as how this will work. I trust that our customers will figure out how to purchase an appropriately sized invitation for their personal use, and if there’s an issue then our Care team will be happy to help. It’s possible that you’ll find that there is no need for a new design tool, or for a new invitation shape, or anything like that.
