What’s the difference between a successful online business and a hobby?

A hobby is not earning enough (at least minimum wage but preferably much much more per hour) from an activity.

If you want your Zazzle store(s) to provide you with the payout you desire, and not have it be a hobby, then the first step is to set your earnings goal (or sales goal - either way - your 2025 measure of monetary success of your Zazzle store).

Without a goal you are just drifting. I drifted for many years because I was too overwhelmed to set a goal.

I was frustrated by goal setting until I developed my own goal setting system called ERSD. 

I would either be disappointed because I set my goal too high and wouldn’t reach it (talk about self doubt and how to reinforce those feelings)

OR

I would set my goal too low so I could say I achieved it but be disappointed that I wasn’t accomplishing what I really wanted

…or worse

I would overachieve the low goal and then have FOMO because I wondered what if I had set my goal higher? Would I have achieved it?

For anyone reading this I can attest to the teachings of Elke and her daughter Jen are the real deal. Since I started with the Clarkes in 2016 I have taken their advice and and learned so much that made my Zazzle business grow in ways I didn’t realize would happen. With my Zazzle earnings and knowledge I had learned from Elke, I have purchase a number of iPhones, MacBook laptops, a new car and a few vacations and more. 

Was it easy…? No. Was it fast? No. Was it satisfying? Absolutely!.

Now my Zazzle business is on cruise control for the foreseeable future. Because of what I put into place from the teachings from the Clarkes AND my own creativity, as well as, finding what worked for me, my efforts are still bringing in money.

If you take your Zazzle experience seriously and would like to make it a business, you’ll need to invest in yourself to make it happen.

I don’t know what to thing about your post. I see you’re only at PRO level, how can you tell you have purchased Iphones, Macbook, new car ??? how can it be possible ? as you said in previous post, you’ve started in 2009 !!! you should be at least at silver level. or you have an income which mainly comes from referrals . can you explain ?

You can hide your levels from public view. I am well beyond the Pro level.

Of course you can hide your levels from view. Yes it leaves the simple Pro badge but I’ve hidden my level from the public.

If you go to your Members Profile > Advanced Settings > under your store list, you’ll find this. Notice my box is not checked. Therefore, hiding my Pro level from you seeing it.

Lot’s of designers hide what pro level they are at.  It is no secret that you can hide it if you so choose in your member settings even though it still leaves the basic pro part of the badge.  That way you aren’t target practice for people just copying big sellers or for any number of reasons really.   Honestly, people can be well above the badge they have because international sales do not count toward your pro level so someone could have sold enough total to be silver and still be at gold level because they don’t have enough sales from the US to count.

Thank you for your answer! I understand and know the principle of hiding one’s level. The subject was not whether or not to hide one’s PRO level or beyond. The point is that I’m tired of people telling themselves what they are not. Even if you have a lot of international sales, like me, I can’t  invent a financial level that I don’t have. And I don’t believe we can have more sales abroad than in the USA. Because shipping costs are prohibitive, all products being made in the USA, there is no alternative like for platforms like Printful or Redbubble (which do not offer customization)

I’ve seen too many fake Zazzle gurus that it’s getting ridiculous. I enjoy looking at the stores of sellers at Silver level or above, not to copy them, but to appreciate the work they have done in their stores, their collections… they have one thing in common: a large number of items in their stores, and that there is consistency in their style.

I like things to be transparent, especially in a forum for Zazzle professionals, otherwise what’s the point? and I would like self-proclaimed trainers not to be allowed to advertise themselves. unless they have signed agreements with Zazzle, which would not surprise me.

Personally I’m very suspicious about all the Zazzle vendors who use their success on the platform to sell their magic methods. Most of the time they have been active on Zazzle for many, many years, so they built their reputation at a time when the market was much less saturated than it is today. In addition, the digital marketing aspect evolves every year, a search engine like Google makes evolutions of its algorithms regularly, and everything has been modified a lot since the introduction of AI. (I am a former software engineer and I followed gurus like Bill Slawski for years to understand all the patents and evolutions of Google’s algorithms. I can tell you that it is very far from being a simple problem.) So not only do I have a hard time believing in magic formulas, but I am all the more perplexed by someone who needs to sell them to ensure an income (which they should already have, directly from Zazzle if it were so magical.)
