The “About” section doesn’t really describe the paper type or thickness so wondering if anyone’s seen this product in real life and what you thought of it, or if you’re selling them, any feedback from your customers on them?
I’ve been looking at customer reviews of this product and several mention the paper is thin & flimsy.
This would be OK though I think if you’re going to mount it on another backing or frame it. But now I’m concerned with the printing. Here are some screenshots taken from reviews, comparing the orig design to what they actually got.
The purple text looks brown, the red text on the left looks more burgandy/plum, and the blues & greens overall are darker, too.
Oiks!
Crummy reviewer photo, but can still see it appears to have printed much darker & muddier, doesn’t have the more defined color shadings.
This one looks pretty good, just the blues in the main image aren’t as bright blue-blue.
This one looks almost perfect to me, except the basketball is more reddish/brown than tan/brown.
I’m working on a design for personal use (a gift for someone) and wanting to print it on this poster type but it has a lot of blues and reds in it which seem to be problematic colors in this print process. I’m debating between picking another product or maybe amping the colors in my design way up since they might print way darker than pictured. I don’t know. Just looking for feedback from other Designers on this product and also, hoping a Mod can find out the thickness of the paper.
Those samples may show both RBG designs and CMYK designs. Specifying the right color mode makes a difference. What does Zazzle recommend for this printing process?
Well, they advertise it as
Printed on quality glossy poster paper with never-before-seen technology, this is the first poster in the world to give you amazing image clarity and vivid colors at a price traditionally reserved for bulk poster runs.
and surely they don’t expect customers to be in-the-know about color-managing photos they upload to template designs? A Designer might use CMYK but a customer uploading a pic from their phone or computer isn’t going to know about all this color stuff and would just expect it to print as pictured. There are tens of thousands of photo templates on Z thus tens of thousands of customers who have replaced with their own photo w/o doing any color profile converting. The more I think about it the weirder it is. If Zazzle doesn’t have the ability to reproduce photos correctly unless they are uploaded as CMYK profile, then how did they ever succeed as a POD printing photos uploaded by customers who have no clue about all this?
I’m rambling though. I’ll make a copy of my design and convert to CMYK in PS and see what it looks like that way. Probably be pretty dreary.
I converted to CMYK in Photoshop and much to my surprise there is NO difference at all in how the colors look to me inside Photoshop. Saved as .png and opened in both Irfanview and Faststone Image Viewer and still looks exactly same as the RGB version. Uploaded to Zazzle and same - looks exactly the same as RGB version. Now I’m more confused then when I started this project.
Saved and uploaded the CMYK version as a .tif which Google says is the only way to keep the actual CMYK color profile for Zazzle to use, and it still looks exactly the same as the other versions. Gah. Just wanted to make a silly little gift and here I am going down this rabbit hole.
Did more editing in CMYK mode and saved & uploaded to Z as a .tif where it looks good in the editor and previews. I ordered it so it’s in Zazzle’s hands now to do a good job with the colors as I don’t know what else I could have done to ensure it doesn’t print dark and/or muddy. Says I’ll have it by the 8th and since I have Z Plus it included the “expert design review” at no extra charge. So I’ll be back next week to report how it turns out.
@ColsCreations Good luck and thanks for bringing this up, it’s good to know, will be looking forward to your feedback on the end product. I noticed in some products not even posters the colours in the product page don’t look the same as inside the design area HEX colour, been struggling with matching my colours as I want them to be the same and it never is so I go with what I manage to achieve as the best end result. To see the end product would be great in comparison with design area, product in Zazzle mockup and the actual result. You made me thinking now. But I guess this would be a subject for another thread.
