We’ve made an update to Image Templates and Masks for Easier Customization for Customers:
Image templates:
Image templates that are likely to be replaced by customers now behave like frames.
We’re able to determine if an image template is likely to be replaced by checking if the placeholder image set by the creator has personal content like faces, etc.
With an eligible image template selected, when a customer presses the delete key, the green placeholder will appear instead of the image disappearing completely.
This change makes customization for customers a lot smoother so they do not need to resize or reposition their photo again after deleting it.
Masks are now frames:
Most masks that were in your designs were automatically converted to frames
This change was applied to eligible masks with only one image.
This change makes customization for customers a lot smoother because cropping is now more intuitive and easier to use. Previously, it was possible for customers to drag their image “inside the mask”, leaving the possibility for creating gaps in the design.
If you wish to make edits to your frame, you can always use the “change image” button.
We recommend reviewing your top-sellers, especially holiday cards to ensure everything is working as expected! With this change, we have noticed some technical issues for select mask designs, which are already on our team’s radar and they are looking into fixing.
Hi James - I mentioned this in the frames announcement post that several of my multi-photo designs have a mix of frames and masks now. Is that one of the technical issues on the radar? I just want to make sure that I don’t need to be doing anything on my end to fix it. These are older designs that still sell, and I’m concerned especially going into the holiday season that it’s going to cause more problems for the customers.
Hi @Lea - Yes, our team is looking into your examples. Thank you for sharing! We hopefully should have an update for you soon. No need to make updates at this time.
Do you want us to stop using the mask function? I only just “discovered” using it, but the frame function should also work for my purposes (the frames are just buried a bit further).
I have just checked my first product and have noticed that half of my photos have been converted to the new system and half just delete. I do not have the ability to update my designs.
Many of my placeholders are nature photos and not people. I think this is going to be a fairly large mess on my products. Is there a way that we can have access to update these? They are many of my top performers on the platform. Below are three examples (this is definitely not all of the products. Several come in multiple colorways as well). I have not yet checked my calendar that has over 40 customizable photos. 😅
Hello, I have the same issue as Amanda for some of my products. How can we fix/update bestsellers without deleting and recreating? Some of my designs are business cards.
Also for me frames are not working today, I cannot add images to the frames. Is this only in the design creation process or is it a problem for customers as well? I have been trying all day. Thanks!
Can someone please point me to somewhere explaining how frames work? I am unable to move the photo around in the frame so this is a big problem for me now
Nevermind my issue, I got it working again! If you are also having problems try following these instructions:
add your frame by clicking the “elements” menu on the left and selecting whatever shape you want
-click within the shape so that the shape is highlighted (if it is a grid, make sure one of the sections is highlighted) - on the upper right you’ll see “add image” and click that
scroll through your uploads (or click upload in the upper left of the library) then add the photo you want, it will place it within the shape
to move the image within the shape look to the right again for “adjust image” and you can also click “change image” to replace it
scroll down the right menu to click “make template” and also then you can choose “force customers to replace..” if you want
Previously you could drop the photos directly into the frame but now you need to add via “add image” to select or upload from your image library. This is in the instructions but I still didnt see the “add image” button somehow. Hope this helps someone!
I’m trying to break my habit of designing with masks and go with the frames. But I’m REALLY struggling with how long it took me just now to find the single square frame. I had to scroll all the way down to the bottom of the frames menu and then click “grids.” It was the 6th image there. Can we please consider the functionality here and put the basic straightforward option at the top? I would think that ideally grids would be at the top and the square/rectangle frame - the one labeled “01” - first. Thank you!!
_ Who can come to my store and tell me why my products are not selling, what is wrong with that, and what I should do to develop my store, and also what are the most sold items on Zazzle? _
Hello! Previously I was able to adjust the grid frames to fit the shape of my products - e.g. make the grid shorter/longer or fatter/thinner. Over the last couple of days I have been unable to do this. Not sure if its a technical issue or zazzle has taken away the option for designers to do this? Is anyone else experiencing this problem.
I didn’t know about masks working on Zazzle edit tool. Are they new features of Zazzle. Is just referring to recognition of them on Zazzle platfrom design side from the file we uploads. I already worked in similar platform. I will look about that better about that on Zazzle. Any important information is always wellcome in order to manage better our designs.
Shapes used as masks transferred to frames have the same limiting properties as frames. And designs that intentionally used shapes to achieve a sequence effect show now mixed results (at the backend). That means some masks stay and some were transformed into frames.
By replacing the image template (various windows of the same image) the frame limitation comes now into effect.
