Venting Has Consequences Words Matter and Can Drive Customers Away

Lately, I’ve read too many posts publicly bad-mouthing Zazzle products referring to them as “cheap,” “overpriced,” or “not worth it.” That kind of venting doesn’t just express frustration it undermines the value of what we all create. If you think the products are too expensive, that’s your opinion. But posting it in a public forum where customers can read it? That’s damaging. It erodes trust, drives buyers away, and makes our entire community look unprofessional.

I’m also tired of hearing “I’m not making enough money” or “I’m earning pennies after marketing fees”? Then stop complaining and start adjusting. Zazzle’s fee structure isn’t going to change because we vent in the forums. The reality is simple: you control your royalty rate. If your margins are too thin, raise your royalty to offset the fees. That’s your power as a creator.

And let’s be clear: Zazzle’s forums are public. Customers read them. Search engines index them. When creators post angry, unfiltered rants, it doesn’t just hurt our community it drives buyers away. If you wouldn’t say it on your storefront, don’t say it here.

I really think it’s best to be positive in the Community forum rather than negative. And yes I’ve been guilty of venting too. But I try to stay professional about what I post. To help, not hurt.

I agree with this. In this day and age I think it’s second-nature for people to Google a company they aren’t familiar with before chancing an order with them. Since forum posts are indexed surprisingly quick by Google, there’s no telling how many potential customers our own vents/negativity/complaints might be scaring away. It’s especially troublesome with the AI overview at the top of search results which includes what it read in community posts here in its analysis.
We all get frustrated (or downright angry over something) and need to vent or seek a resolution, but too much of that in the public eye is shooting ourselves in the foot. We all want to see Zazzle flourish so it’s counter-productive to be promoting with one hand while disparaging with the other.

I think major vents/complaints/etc are best left in the Pro forum which is not accessible to customers & not indexed on search engines. I realize that leaves out Designers who haven’t made Bronze yet but that might not be a bad thing. Newer eager Designers probably feel awful discouraged reading so much negativity but most of the negativity is because we’re comparing how it used to be to how it is now. How it is now is all newer members know though.
