It would be super helpful if there was some way to save a color in the design tool - even if we could just force it to save a color to the recently used section. The original colors thing is kinda helpful, but not really because it doesn’t show the exact colors of the text or background that were originally used - for some reason the colors are always slightly different from the original, so if you’re trying to match text colors for products within a collection, the only way to do it is to open one design, copy the hex code to the clipboard, then open the other design and paste it in. That works OK if there’s only one color in play, but when you’ve got multiple colors and/or you’re copying other design elements onto the clipboard I end up doing crazy things like creating a bunch of dummy text fields to have an easy way to grab the colors that I need without resorting to clipboard mania - and when you do that, you always risk forgetting to delete your dummy fields when you publish.
It would just be soooo helpful if I could click on an existing text field and save the color swatch either in the recently used section or the original design section so that I could easily grab it without all of the crazy copy paste stuff that I end up resorting to.
Hi Cat, I like your idea, and I’m wondering if using your saved design folder for something like this? That way you can eventually delete the saved design, but use it over and over, until finished with all your products.
I generally use an existing published design rather than something from the saved designs folder - that way I have the existing metadata to use as a starting place when publishing the final product and that saves me a LOT of time because all I have to do is edit the existing title, tags & descriptions rather than starting from scratch. I also have a text document with all of the hex codes for colors that I regularly use when I just need to copy/paste the hex code for a color.
But none of that really solves the problem of getting the colors I need into the swatches section so that I don’t have to copy/paste from the clipboard in order to grab them. Obviously, it’s not an insurmountable problem - copy/paste works, but it’s just really time consuming and inefficient.
Generally speaking, I’m not just changing the colors in a design, I’m also swapping out artwork etc. so my goal here is to find some way to access the colors without having to use the clipboard because every time I copy a color code to the clipboard it wipes out whatever I had there before. So I end up going back and forth with what’s on the clipboard and it’s just really disruptive to my workflow. Not sure if I’m making sense or not…
In both photoshop and illustrator, users can create their own custom swatches library (or libraries) and save them as ASE files. When you begin a new project, you simply import your swatches, and you’re good to go. Is this something that can be added to Zazzle’s design tool?
