What is this new first page in the design tool

What is this new page in the design tool, before you can even work on your own designs? This is getting more difficult, more confusing and more time consuming for the creator and the customer just to make or edit a product. What is going on? This has something to do with a Christmas card and I am working on a poster.

I’m not seeing that. Maybe it’s an A/B test.

Probably is an A/B test, but why is it there? It makes no sense and it’s super confusing. It makes you think you clicked on the wrong product or something. It is showing up on posters and now stickers. There’s really no telling where it’s popping up, but it keeps reverting to Christmas cards first. If the customer sees this first before they even get to your design, I’m afraid it will drive them somewhere else.

This is so frustrating seeing this first, before I can even get into the design tool to work on my design. Why does Zazzle keep adding all this nonsense to the design tool? I have been here since Zazzle started and this has to be the most puzzling thing I’ve ever seen Zazzle do.

I worked on posters all day today, and I didn’t have that new page. So, it’s definitely an A/B test. Looks like it’s a potential new feature for customers, but it hinders designers work.

This has been mentioned in other threads but I haven’t seen it myself yet, probably because between this, the multiple-tabs frustration, and products being duplicated or accidentally over-ridden because of the multiple-tabs thing,  I have stayed away from the design editor. I didn’t find the new design editor interface difficult, but these type things, eh, I’m staying away until things settle down.

It must be test, but now it’s popping up on lots of other products.

There are way to many changes going on at one time and I haven’t seen Zazzle announce half of the changes.

My guess is that this “feature” means they are probably ramping up working more on their integration with the formerly-known-as Hobnob app.

I had it for a couple of days and then it just disappeared so I am sure they are testing this out.

Just noticed they changed the wording here from “Other designs you might like” to “Swap Templates”.

That says to me this A/B test you’ve seen probably got the green light? as this wording change ties into your personal fields info being saved and auto-filled for you as you try other designs out. Seems handy for customers shopping wedding invites, not having to re-type names, dates, etc, on every design & product they want to explore, but how would it work since products don’t all have the same template fields or labels. And “Swap Templates” is just, confusing. One is not swapping templates by clicking one of the other suggested products in that scroll, they are choosing a completely different design often by a different Designer.

I’m not seeing that yet on my end, but I also thankfully did not get this ‘fields’ window test either. But I agree ‘swap templates’ sounds so weird and confusing.

‘Swap Designs’ just appeared for the first time under the main product page. Where ‘Other Designs You Might Like’ use to be. I think this is super confusing as a customer. ‘Other Designs’ makes far more sense. I really hope this is an A/B test that will go away too.

I just got the pop up for the page in the og post. I wish there was a little box to check that says don’t show this again.

“Other designs” makes sense but “swap designs” really rubs me the wrong way. You can’t just “swap” my design – then it’s not my design anymore – kind of insulting! lol

I agree that Swap Designs is really confusing to the buyers and not fair to the designers.

Years ago I participated in one of those Zazzle programs that was only open to certain designers. It was just for wedding save the date cards. The idea was that the customer would enter their information once and then Zazzle would pre-populate a bunch of different designs so they could see their own photo and info in the designs rather than just the dummy data. But in that case the designer had to follow a whole pile of really strict rules in terms of the template fields when designing the products - they all had to have pre-designated URL parameters and had to follow a few other rules that I can’t now remember.

I’m wondering if this is something similar. Are you seeing this on your own designs or just on designs by select creators who might have participated in some program? Maybe they’ve found some way to use AI to figure out what the fields are supposed to be instead of relying on designers to give them a pre-designated URL parameter? Hmmm…

yes, if you follow a external link, then yes. even if I was first on zazzle.com and followed my product. not from the shop starting.
