I just went bananas trying to find a particular bookplate I’d designed, finally finding it by searching for the image I’d used. My jaw dropped when I found it in Crafts & Party Supplies. Without a dedicated category, wouldn’t Stationery be a a better place?
Can anyone figure out the logic?

so your bookplate should have shown up in one of those logical categories. Why it showed up under crafts & party supplies, trying to use “zazzle logic” possibly landed there when indexed using your tags and title, description?

I realized not all my bookplates were showing, and when I slipped on the banana peel and landed on a missing bookplate, I investigated it to see why. Craft & Party supplies > Book Accessories > Bookplates & Labels. Honest to God, I’m telling the truth. LOL

it makes little sense that it is categorized where it is, you are right.

Forgive my ignorance, but what’s a bookplate? I did a search and all I see is stickers.
Bookplates used to be very useful in years past to identify the owner of a book, for example if you lent it to someone. It used to be put in the inside cover of the book,with the owners name on it. Do a search using “bookplates” in the zazzle search bar at the top of the page—(among others) you should then see—
The only place that I’ve seen bookplates used recently is inside teachers’ personal/classroom books. “This book belongs to Mrs. Smith, Kindergarten, Room 222.”
People still use them to convince borrowers to return books, so they aren’t quite the thing of the past you might think. But my problem wasn’t finding them in Zazzle’s marketplace. Instead, it was finding them in my own store. It did finally dawn on me why they were placed in Crafts. It’s because rubber stamps were for quite a while lucrative in the craft market for people using cute stamps for making greeting cards and related items. It’s likely what Zazzle was thinking of when they added stamps as a subcategory in Crafts and Party Supplies. What got me was the subcategory in that department of “Book Accessories” and within that were bookplates. A kind of nonsequitor. It’s astonishing that even the “ex libris” bookplates in the marketplace are in Crafts and Party Supplies. Harumph. I bet Dostoevsky would be honored. LOL

For a long time, I used a rubber stamp inside my books and also on the paper edges. When I stopped loaning my books to others, I stopped using the stamp, but I imagine those with decent-sized home libraries must still use both stamps and bookplates to help the return of their books. Another place they’re used is in children’s books. It helps give them a sense of pride and ownership. Then, of course, there are the public libraries, which almost always stamp their books.
It’s a shame we can’t stamp our Kindle books, but it would probably harm the electronics.
Note: I just sold a set of bookplates, which happens periodically, so don’t discount them.
