Won't allow me to upload a DST file for embroidered hat

I’m trying to upload a DST file onto an embroidered hat but a message pops up for a few seconds that says:

_ “image failed to upload – we support PNG, JPEG, PDF, AI, GIF, and TIFF files.” _

Notice that it does not mention that DST files are supported, which Zazzle claims it does in the embroidery guide.

What gives?

Just a thought (I haven’t done any embroidery products in quite a while):

Are you trying to upload directly to your image file, or, are you uploading from the EMBROIDERY DESIGN page?

The embroidery product page may recognize the DST file. ???

I get the same message either way.

Hey @fansportsspot  ,

We’ll take a look into this for you and update the thread once we know more. Thanks for your patience! 📝

This is the only “embroidery - embroidered” thread I found, so I figured best to keep things together.

Topic: embroidery fee payment

  1. Is there not a way to list and let the first customer order pay this fee for me?

  2. If I have to pay, how does it work? Will it show as a debit on my royalties page?

  3. What if I was a brand new seller with no royalties, would my royalties go negative or would I enter a payment somewhere?

  4. I didn’t click past the Zazzle fee image below. My design is showing under review and I wondered if I can wait for review BEFORE paying or do I pay for EACH review? (what if the design won’t work???)

I did find these links:

They still don’t upload and it’s now Feb 2023, I spoke with someone and got a response as it may be my browser. Well that isn’t the case at all because I tried all my browsers, it is on their end and they know it. The red box on the bottom even says it takes DST files which I use and have many times years ago before it didn’t. I don’t think they will change it because then they won’t get their conversion fee. Anyhow I give up and it’s too bad I enjoy making embroidered gifts.

It’s been years, I would think if you guys really wanted to  “ALLOW” it, you would have put it back to the way it was. I will never pay a conversion fee.

I finally got an answer from Zazzle telling me that it isn’t because they don’t accept DST files, it’s because  my file is too large.

I used the same file and uploaded it to a competitor’s platform, with no problem and great results. So, going forward, I will not be using Zazzle for my embroidered products.

They just want the artist to PAY for the conversion FEE. I think this is nonsense. Perhaps add the price to the product? Artist should not have to pay for their work..

At the very least, there should be some kind of approval of the converted image. 10 days is a bit short for a refund policy when you don’t even get 1 revision or get to add notes to those converting the file. I personally don’t work in embroidery files, so I don’t mind the conversion fee for an item or two if it means not downloading and learning a new software, especially if the DST files won’t upload at a different size. (sizing files is already such a challenge on its own to make it available for printing on most products Zazzle offers) I found this thread as I’m not totally happy with the file conversion I did a long time ago and I’m looking on ways to revise the design I submit so the embroidery comes out the way I intend. Based on the initial preview, everything looked fine, but once the image was converted, it didn’t look great. I wanted to order for myself to see if the preview was accurate, but I’m scared to waste the money on a product that the preview is pretty clear about.

Any Embroidery tips appreciated.
