How can a product be "trending" and not view in 13 months?

This is weird. I noticed on of my shirts has the little diamond showing it's trending. To me that suggest eyes have been on it. Yet on the backend it had red letters saying its "Last Viewed Date: 13 months, 12 days ago."

I've been very suspicious of "trending" items for similar reasons.

Something I don't understand is how 'Popular' is calculated. When I sort my products by popularity, some of the 'Popular' ones have had fewer views or sales than products deemed less 'Popular'.

I sort by Last Viewed or Last Sold. That's a lot more accurate than Popular.

Popularity is different from trending. Trending made a modicum of sense. A products that's being viewed a lot in a short amount of time. Popularity though has never made much sense. 🙄

In my products, I have also noticed the trending info out of whack in relation to last viewed. Doesn't make sense.

The bar for Trending is so low that I think if anybody besides you has ever viewed it at any time then it is Trending.

At one point out of curiosity, I checked view numbers and trending, and though I can't remember the exact number of views required, the bar was extremely low. The space probably ought to be vacated.

@Barbara I recall seeing 3 views as having gotten the trending diamond. Should be at least 20, IMHO.

It depends on the number of overall views (as far as I can tell). I think it's 10 and over (or maybe 11? 🤔). When I've got a notification about needing to optimize a product, I have seen a few that have been trending in the past, it just means they haven't been viewed recently. I just go in and spruce them up a little bit. I think overall the 'trending' thing is just a bit of harmless marketing on Zazzle's part. You create an interest in something by saying that other people are interested, too. I don't mind the low view requirement at all. It's motivational for shop owners who mightn't have hundreds (or even thousands) of views for their products like the more successful store owners here. If the number was set at something like say, 100 or 1,000 views then a lot of people here (me included) would never have any trending products at all. Just my opinion. 🙂

I think no one here is concerned about the views themselves in this case but with the feeling that the label of "trending" is meaningless. Space filler.

I see it as a device to encourage the customer to buy. It gives them the satisfaction of not being the only person to have liked, and maybe considering to buy, a specific item.

Because huge numbers of products are "trending," I doubt it could have much impact on customers. It's like some of the marketplace pages where you see nothing but editor's picks on the first page(s). It loses its meaning.

Personally, if it's trending or not doesn't matter to me (that much) but having it trending means eyes are currently on it. But the backend saying it hasn't been seen in 13 month tell me there is a bug in the system. Perhaps I should have put this in the tech forum, but it seems harmless enough (though I could be wrong).
