How to put a collection into a store category?

Hi! I am still organizing my new Wedding shop and I want to put a collection (Moonlight Romance designs) INTO a Category that I created - WEDDING INVITATION SUITES.

I have both created now I want the  Moonlight Romance collection inside the WEDDING INVITATION SUITES Category.

This must be a simple thing - I'm just missing it. Weird, I know because Ive done it once with the Happy Housewife Bridal shower Invites that are inside the SHOWER INVITES Category.

Brain fade here I think. Thanks in advance! Cheers, Diane

@mcmxmas

The only way for the products out of your collection to appear under that category, you can create a sub category then change the category for all those products to that new sub cat.

That's the only way for products in a collection to appear in a designated category - you can't drag and drop collections into a category.

To create a new sub category from the store back end - click on the category and just next to the category thumbnail - you see edit/delete/ Add New category.

Give it a name, upload a new thumbnail press done.

You can then change the category from your collection products to the new sub category.

Bear in mind it can take at least a week for products to move between categories - nothing is ever immediate.

Sorry there isn't an easier way

Soooo... Im really making multiple categories? Not Collections?

@mcmxmas collections and categories are two separate things.

You can make both and the same products can be in both but it all depends how you want your store set up for ease of use I suppose.

The collections can't fall under categories - sub categories can

It can take a week for new categories to appear so if you have only just made them - check back in a week

edited to add - to change a product's category - hit actions dropdown and Set store category - press done

The website is very slow indexing any changes so you won't see them fall into the new category for a fair few days.

The products in the Moonlight Romance collection were only created yesterday so haven't hit your store front yet

It takes time to set up a new store 🙂

I am having trouble seeing  Happy Housewife Bridal shower Invites collection  inside of the SHOWER INVITES Category. Can you post a link to that, so we can see this also?

I also do Postcrossing!

I am even more confused now. What I am trying to do is get the organization in my shop to look like this:
CATEGORY: Wedding Invitations
-------------------COLLECTIONS : Moonlight Romance, + many other styles each with their own collection icon.

CATEGORY: Shower Invites
-------------------COLLECTIONS: Happy House wife, +  many other styles each with their own collection icon.

Right now it looks like it's either not populated yet OR I have done something wrong.  When I click into Shower Invites CATEGORY  instead of the Icon for Happy Housewife COLLECTION,  I see all the different versions of that invite laying loose. Not in a Collection, THE ICON IS NOT THERE.

Is what I'm trying to do even possible?

Collections and categories are totally separate, and you can't put collections into categories. You can make subcategories with the same names as the collections, and put the same products in them if you want. So where you have:

-------------------COLLECTIONS : Moonlight Romance, + many other styles each with their own collection icon.

That should be SUBCATEGORY: Moonlight Romance, etc.

You can make a Moonlight Romance collection and a Moonlight Romance Subcategory under the Wedding Invitations category, and probably use the same cover image for both. It would be a little extra work now to recategorize everything, but not too much going forward.
