Question regarding customer use of instant download

I have many birthday products that are personalized, eg Name and Age.  If a customer purchases an instant download of one of these products, can they personalize it multiple times?  In other words, can they do an instant download for John, then another for Mary, and another for Chris?  Or can they only personalize it once?

this will affect how i price these items...

thanks,

marcia s.

What am I allowed to do with my Instant Download?
Your Instant Download purchase grants you a Download License to the Independent Creator's design on the Zazzle marketplace. You may review the details of the Download License in Section 3.2.5 of our User Agreement.
To summarize:
1. You may use your Instant Download for personal use. This means you can share the file on your website, social media, and electronic communications (text, email) so long as you are sharing the file for personal purposes.
2. You may not use the Instant Download file for commercial purposes. This means you may not resell or profit the file on Zazzle or on other websites and services. You may not use the Instant Download to promote or brand your business via signage, posters, packaging, brochures.
3. You may print the design on personal and commercial printers, so long as the print is used for personal purposes.
4. You may use the Instant Download for personal projects, educational presentations, blogs, and publications. You may also use the Instant Download as a decorative background for mobile phones, tablets, and computers.

based on what i am reading in these responses, i am changing some of my cards, posters, and invitations to "not downloadable" and i am raising the price on others.  as we get more experience, i can always change again.  thanks for your input!

there is nothing stopping them from personalizing the item numerous times in different ways, nothing to stop them from sending to friends and nothing to stop other people from using the templates. Assuming someone is going to read or honor a personal use license is a risk taken when electing to opt in to instant downloads

It seems to me that the download, being a flattened image does not allow the design/template to be sent anywhere to be personalized by friends etc...  The only way that someone could personalize is through their Z account.  That being said, it does seem to be that the customer could purchase and then send the same card to multiple people after personalizing for each.  Then the question becomes something like... How many people does the customer know that would enjoy receiving the card?  I guess it depends on the card.  A card that features male figures probably won't be sent to a birthday girl.  Although a crafty customer could go into the design and change the male graphics to female graphics.  If your cards are gender neutral then the thing you are worried about is something to consider.

With that being said, Zazzle will know how many times a card is downloaded and altered.  I feel confident in saying that those two things are being monitored to see if the question you pose does indeed become a reality.  And if so, how many times a customer does such a thing.  It is mentioned in the terms that if Z feels the terms are being violated or abused, then they can act on it.  There are always going to be bad actors...  And if it seems there are too many, Z will change the customers abilities...

So maybe change a few cards and see how it goes over the next few months, then maybe change more or remove the ability...

I myself just made two of my cards downloadable... just a test to see how it goes...

I've done a buy test on one of my products. In my case product can be customized multiple times and can be downloaded each different file. It can seem disadvantageous for designers, but I do not know about market  prices and competitors in this field... I discovered vector files are converted in bitmap files, I'm agree with this as vector designs in much cases have a higher value and it's good designer keep the original, sometimes also to avoid confusions with unexpert customers.

I found my artwork in other seller store (Zazzle).  It is not only printed on cards, but also t-shirt and other products.  I sent message to the seller to delete my file, but no response so far.  I have disabled all my downloadable cards.

i have just disabled all instant downloads in my store.  i may go back and selectively enable some, but for now it seems too risky.  @art00189 thanks for letting us know.

it seems that what is being sold as "instant downloads" is actually "templates".  I would happily sell one-time downloads, and will gladly enable my products when zazzle restricts the number of times a product can be downloaded by each customer - an automated restriction, not relying on the customer to voluntarily comply.  if customer purchases an instant download, in my mind that should allow customer to personalize and download it once.  If they want to do a different personalization, then they should purchase a second download (eg one download for John, one for Mary...).

just my two cents...

I just want to make small revision.  I found my artwork on other stores and printed on t-shirt, hoodies, mug, tote bag and more (I didn't find it on card).  I don't think I will get any royalty from their selling.  I have reported on every product they (yes I found 2 stores that sell my artwork so far) sell, but maybe I cannot find them all.  I'm confused how they can downloaded the file and resell it if it is illegal to use other people art for commercial use.

Downloads must be purchased. This is the same process as a normal sale, so you'll see who has purchased what design in your Royalty History page.

I'm sorry to hear that someone has stolen your artwork, but I don't believe that this is related to our new Instant Downloads feature.

I like the instant download option, it seems strange that a customer can use the templates multiple times with one purchase. But think for example if we buy a template for a professional graphics program. Even then we have it forever and could edit it infinite times.

Keep in mind that in this case we speak of personal use.
If the option is extended for commercial use and also, for example, on brochures or business cards, I think it would be better to limit the number of uses and/or increase the selling price. However, I am not an expert about the template market sector but I believe there are already many competitors for templates.

I had my first instant download sale in Feb.
