429 Response Code When Trying to Tag Products on Pinterest

Hi, Happy New Year!

I’m posting some new products I created to Pinterest and wanted to tag them, however I get a 429 Response Code error in red when I try to tag a product with a Zazzle url. It doesn’t bring up the Zazzle product page. I tested another POD link from a different POD website and that worked. It seems just the Zazzle links are bringing up this error. Any suggestions? I would like to tag my products for people to easily click and purchase.

Did a search, found this—-

A 429 response code, or “Too Many Requests,” is an HTTP status code indicating a client has sent too many requests to a server in a given time, triggering the server’s rate-limiting mechanism to prevent overload or abuse. Servers often include a Retry-Afterheader to tell the client how long to wait before retrying. It’s a client-side error (4xx) signaling the client needs to slow down, common with APIs or web scraping, and can be fixed by pausing requests or implementing exponential backoff.

Thanks, I asked Chatgpt as well and it gave a list of things it could be. My activity doesn’t match the qualities of a client-side error though. This was the first pin I have tried tagging in months. I use a url shortener, but I tried tagging the product with the direct zazzle link as well and that didn’t work either. I tried tagging the product with the url shortener first (didn’t work), then tried the direct Zazzle url (didn’t work), then tried a url from a different POD website, it worked! But of course I didn’t leave that link because it was not the correct product, I was just testing. I didn’t get a “try again later” message either which is odd. One thing Chatgpt suggested was that there was too many pins in general on Pinterest being tagged by Zazzle urls. I am wondering if that is the issue. I think I will contact Pinterest support and ask them. If no one else is having this issue, then it could be my browser or something like that.

More about client side error—-

client-side error happens in your browser (like Chrome, Firefox) or device, not the website’s server, often due to bad JavaScript, browser cache/cookies, extensions, or outdated browser versions, commonly showing as “Application error: a client-side exception has occurred” and usually fixed by clearing cache/cookies, trying Incognito mode, or disabling extensions, as explained in Magnetic Creative, ElevenLabs, and Quora.

I reached out to Pinterest and they resolved the issue! I had tried tagging in other browsers but it still was not working until this morning when I received a message from Pinterest saying the issue should be fixed now. Pinterest is pretty good at resolving technical issues, probably going forward I will reach out to them first.
