so now customers can design thier own ornaments .. thats great .. but with all these new customer perks.. how long before designers are no longer needed? How long before they upload floral pictures to paper create thier own wedding stationery.. tshirts on and on .. guess ai is just going to make designers obsolete now .. as it is my royalties have seen an all time low .. where I could see a paycheck in the thousands.. now seeing them in the low hundreds .. sad
There is another feed in ‘general’ where people are talking about it as well. ![]()
thank you .. I tried searching and I got nothing .. will go take a look ..
I’m interested too. Please post a link.
It doesnt appear it is something we can design, it appears to be a zazzle product .. in other words .. between zazzle and the customer .. I dont know what those type of products are actually called .. It seems to be a process available on all ornament types, has a small script to the left side of the photo/painting .. that says besties with a little heart.. and offers a watercolor wash behind the image that the customer can change the color of .. the only customization appears to be the color of the watercolor and the photo itself .. the customer uploads a photo and within a minute they have a custom “watercolor” ai image of that photo . I fear this process migrating to all products basically leaving the designers out of the picture .. If a customer can upload any photo of any topic and have it ai’d to a design on a product .. it kinda leaves the designers out in left field .. Maybe Im paranoid .. but ..
Thanks for the link.
It would be great if they’d make this sort of photo “enhancement” into a filter within the design tool. Maybe they’re trying to keep it exclusive so they can save all of those pennies that they pay to us designers (no sarcasm here
), but they’d get a much wider selection for their customers if they’d make it into a watercolor filter that we designers could incorporate into any sort of product.
They could be testing it before rolling it out to everyone. Idk. But the filter thing isn’t new. I had this on my site for pet photo napkins last year. I had an upload area for the customer on the front end, and on the back end, I had a prompt that used tokens to filter that photo. There are a ton of things you can do with it. I had it put a Santa hat on the pet and make the whole thing watercolor. For my wedding pet “we do too” etc napkins, I actually had a customer come to me here on Zazzle because she had saved a pet photo napkin in her cart on my main website before I started pointing everything here. I had to go back and recreate it from my website and make her a custom product here. Kind of kicking myself for pointing everything here now. It’s gonna take forever to undo. I digress. Back to the topic. Hopefully they’re testing it out before rolling it out to the editor.
I dont believe there is an editor .. I think its one of those items that is bought directly from zazzle .. not frim designers
but they’d get a much wider selection for their customers if they’d make it into a watercolor filter that we designers could incorporate into any sort of product
uhm.. thats the thing .. customers now can do just about everything the designers can do.. so why have us?
They could roll it out to their design editor pretty easily, though, I think. For example, for the Christmas pet photo napkins I had set up last year, this is the back end from the app I used. Designers would put a prompt in there and hopefully be able to lock it. Or it’s possible Zazzle would have only certain prompts that couldn’t be edited. It would require AI tokens, and they’d probably want to limit it to so many uses per visitor. I doubt if they roll it out, they would have designers hook up to their own AI token accounts. Maybe that’s why they’re trying to generate more revenue with their own store. I sure don’t know.
Edit: That was from last year and a much older ai model. The legs are crazy short in that photo. Just wanted to mention that I’m sure it’s much better now.
Yet another Edit: I’m not going to wait to find out if they roll it out for everyone, though. I’m going to be undoing pointing everything on my site to Zazzle. It would be nice if they would let us know what the plan is sooner than later.
Well, that may be where Zazzle is heading, I don’t know. But it seems to me that there are infinite designs that could be made with a watercolor filter - most of them significantly more creative and visually interesting than the Bestaroo ornaments.
I guess it all just depends on what value you think designers bring to the equation. In my opinion, this sort of thing brings the mechanics to the table, but not the creativity. Not sure I’m explaining this very well, but look at wordart/text only designs. Customers have always had everything they needed to create those on their own - at least they’ve had the mechanics to do it with the existing design tool. But having the pieces and being able to put those pieces together in a visually appealing way are two very different things.
I dunno… maybe I’m just being a Pollyana - maybe Zazzle is looking for ways to ditch designers entirely, and maybe dumbed down designs are the wave of the future. But it seems like they’d really be cutting off their nose to spite their face if they took that route. Just my opinion…
