I just noticed that business cards are now selling 50 per pack and no longer 100 per pack. When did Zazzle change this?
Hi @SORS ,
This change happened at the start of this week.
It would have been nice to get a heads up. I had a customer contact me a day or 2 ago about paying for 1 pack of 100 & now it’s only 50 (but 2x the price, she wasn’t sure). I had no idea what she was talking about! She ended up contacting customer service & that’s when I started putting 2 & 2 together. But I felt like an idiot I had no idea what was going on!
And also, now people are mostly still only ordering 1 pack of business cards at a time. So now I’m making half of what I used to just last month. Went from making around $3.25 last year before April 1 & just about all of my nones turned into 3rd party, to now a tad over $1 for 1 pack of 50. It just gets worse, I swear! What’s next???
Thanks for bringing this up @SORS
It’s indeed the usual lack of proper communication from Zazzle, @Marcia
I wonder if this is why I suddenly see a complete flatlining of sales. I used to sell at least one set of business cards every day, although that has become more erratic since the disaster of the so called “design tool”. I am now at 4 days without sales. I probably need to look at price settings now too. 😾
I had a repeat order of business cards on 3/25/26. Product page and pricing show that it was for the 50/cards. Wonder if the customer realized this, or just thought there was a great price (nearly 1/2 off)??
Just a suggestion Mark, but it seems like a really good idea to implement some sort of designer notification system for things like raised base rates, changes in minimum orders or quantity (like the business cards) and other changes zazzle makes on the back end. Maybe something as simple as an automated email to all store owners? I mean I have no idea how feasable something like that would be to set up, but I think every designer here would certainly appreciate getting a simple heads up on things like that.
Just a thought.
My business card sales fell off the cliff recently, along with tissue paper, whose quantities also changed. I used to sell cards 2 to 5 times a week, but I’ve only sold one set-- for pennies–since the quantity change.
Wondering if customers don’t like the new configuration, both the quantity and the tool. and if SEO was also upended. In the specific business card niche where I’ve sold the most cards, I noticed 20+ cards from the SAME designer nowv appear on the first page of search results, which pushed my two best sellers to page two. Will keep promoting like crazy but concerned about results.
Hopefully, it’s only temporary, and when people realize that they only get 50 cards now, they’ll order two packs.
Just my opinion… but there is zero reason to split what was a pack of business cards in half. So far all it is resulting i
it won’t be long before buyers catch on to the fact that they are getting less at a time and then they are going to start to wonder why we suddenly need to sell 1/2 the pack of business cards to begin with?
Maybe Z is just trying to compete with MOO who sells packs of 50 at time? Maybe they are trying to take away business from Moo and other similar platforms?
Just my 1/2 a pack opinion
I was just thinking the very same thing .. looks from my research this started on april 1.. maybe it was supposed to be a joke .. one that continues.. repeat customers ordering may have a rude awakening when they get half of what they are used to.. for the life of me I cannot figure out the end game here anymore .. I am just about over it all..
telling customers ourselves about the changes is not our job to do.. this is fully on zazzle and it should be up to them to notify customers of changes like this .. why not offer both? and yes a designer heads up would have been polite
I’m still getting business card sales but for the most part, it’s for 1 pack. (50 cards) Not sure if customers realize they’re getting half. But my thinking is, is that if I was a 1st time customer, I would be like, “let me order the minimum & see if I like them” first. Then I can always order more. Or the initial thinking of I don’t really need 100 cards but since that’s the minimum, I guess I’ll buy a pac. Either way, once again, we lose. I’m making like $1.00 with the 3rd party carveouts. Before last year I was making around $3.27 per pack. It added up…
yup
I’m seeing the same impact in my store, and I think there are a few simple things that could help here.
It would make a big difference if customers had the option to choose between 50 or 100 packs. That way new buyers can still try a smaller quantity, but repeat customers can order what they’re used to.
Better communication would also go a long way. A simple heads up to creators and clearer messaging on the product page would help avoid confusion.
And if the 50 pack is here to stay, the earnings structure really needs to reflect that. Right now the combination of smaller quantities and current fees is reducing earnings too much per sale.
Time will tell if customers are attracted to a lower price point showing up in searches on the web luring them to the site which could be an advantage but IF the customers simply order 50 card packs it will reduce the average sale to 50% of what it was prior to the 50 pack offering. It’s a gamble that could pay off or just be another dip into our overall earnings… time will tell. As a last note maybe the 50 pack price point will encourage those are not sure to take a chance to see what thee quality is when delivered.
I experienced same with one designer pushing mine down. I used to have several on firs pages for years and now barely none. It’s disheartening. I think they are favoring some designers unfortunately. and Sales are worse than ever.
Well shame on me. I noticed the lower royalties, but never thought to look it up.
I really hate going against the flow but I like the idea…
I notice that lots of Zazzlers in the forums sound like they are unaware of the hard reality that Americans are facing daily. Full disclosure… I am not American, but I have lots of friends and family who are and most of them are not struggling - they’re SUFFERING.
Lots of Zazzlers are wondering what to do to tweak their stores, change SEO, push Pinterest etc. I hate to break it to them, but it won’t work. What we have is a pond that is drying up. A market that is shrinking simply because folks have no money.
The fact is Americans are suffering. They don’t have money to buy food and pay rent, let alone buy stuff on Zazzle.
Yes, business cards are a slightly different animal in the sense that it’s a NECESSITY for business owners. BUT business owners are also people and are also suffering and if they can get by with just buying 50 cards to tide them over for a while, why not? Good for their temporary cash flow… good for me as a seller too. I’d rather have half the sales and make half the royalty than NOT making a sale because a full pack of 100 cards is too much for business owners to pay.
The POD universe has changed forever. To quote the Prime MInister of Canada, Mark Carney, “hope is not a plan, and nostalgia is not a strategy”. Things will NEVER go back to what it was. We will henceforth forever make half the royalty, with ever increasing fees charged and have to compete with AI.
Sorry if what I’ve said offends or discourages anyone.
Again… shame on me… I realize that I hardly ever check the details of my sales.
It turns out that my business cards sales have started to come in pairs - meaning folk are automatically buying 2 packs where it used to be one. The single pack sales are also there at about 1 for every 3-4 sales. That tells me that there ARE folk who are on a budget and ARE buying packs of just 50. Co-incidence or not… according to my report, quite a number of single pack sales are for musician business cards. I guess struggling musicians are probably glad they’re able to get a pack of 50 cards instead of 100.
It’s about 50/50 for me. Not sure if I’m picking up any additional sales. My gut tells me that some people are just buying less now, because they can.
