I think it would be great if we could mask our own uploaded shapes such as states with photos.

We can! They need to be SVG. But if you upload your own SVG file of any shape then the masking tool will work with it.

hmm, I have 2 .svg plain files to maks with, and whatever I do, no masking tool becomes usable, help pls?
