It’s far too easy to misread what’s being said when someone uses a quote within a post. The extreme light gray bar on the left of the quoted material is all but invisible. A medium gray would work better, and best would be how it was in the old forum. separated using a gray background.

By the way, is there some way to quote a small part of the message, or does the quote button only dump the entire message in my box, and then I have to wrestle with my cursor to make it grab and drag the box corner, to make the box bigger, and then delete all the parts I don’t want?
Super laborious.
Or what? Seems to me in other forums, I can just quote a part of the OP message.
In the old forum, you could select what you wanted to quote, copy it, paste it, and then use the quote button. It would immediately change what you pasted into a quote. It was fast and easy.
You’re right. The new way isn’t as good as the old one. I just tried it, but it wants to quote the top post, which is mine. Not my intention. I wanted to quote part of your post.

The light gray bar is, well, light, but the whole quote is in a smaller text with softer color and it’s indented and also it leads with so-and-so wrote. Also, if you are replying directly to someone, the entire post block is indented and says at the top " in reply to…".

Yeah, that’s a pain. If you want to quote just one point or one question or something from off-site, you can’t do it without jumping through hoops. It’s a real bother in those circumstances but overall, I think it’s a good change. The way the old forum worked led to excessive over-quoting which drove me crazy. Entire lengthy posts would be quoted in full just so one could add “Well said!” or “+1” … This new program with a threaded view and all its perks makes it evident who/what one is responding to without quoting, and if you do have the need to quote a part of something, having to jump through hoops to do it is a deterrent. It makes you consider - do I really need to quote this? So far, I haven’t seen any of that excessive over-quoting we had in the old forum going on here and I think that’s a really good thing even if it means I have to work a little harder when i really want to quote something.
