Please bring back the plates

I would love to see Zazzle expand its home and dining selection by bringing back personalized plates, particularly ceramic serving plates, and introducing additional customizable tableware.

I remember when Zazzle previously offered plates, and I believe products like these would have considerable potential today, especially during the holiday season. Personalized serving plates could be designed for occasions such as Christmas dinners, cookie swaps, holiday parties, family gatherings, weddings, and other celebrations. For example, the friendship plate is a long-standing tradition in various communities for annual cookie exchanges. Coordinating designs could be used to create personalized holiday table settings with other items already available here on Zazzle such at table cloths, soup bowls, and glasses.

This concept could also extend well beyond just plates. Serving bowls, gravy boats, butter dishes, decorative charger plates, and other tableware would allow customers to create coordinated dining collections for holidays, weddings, seasonal celebrations, and everyday entertaining.

These products would also provide Zazzle designers with opportunities to expand existing designs into complete collections rather than offering individual dining products. A customer who purchases a holiday serving plate, for example, could coordinate it with matching serving bowls, chargers, napkins, placemats, tablecloths, and other available home décor products.

Personalized tableware feels particularly well suited to Zazzle because it combines practical products with the customization and independent artwork that make the marketplace distinctive. I would be very interested in seeing Zazzle bring customizable serving plates back and consider expanding into a broader collection of personalized table-setting and serving products.

Years ago, I created and ordered plates from Zazzle to hang on my wall. (They look great, by the way.) But they were only good for decorative use. The printing scratched so easily, that the first batch I received was damaged—every plate—even though they were carefully wrapped. I contacted Zazzle, and they sent me a second set, which arrived in good condition. But on closer inspection, the product description said that they were for decorative use only, and were not appropriate for using as dinnerware. They also didn’t survive the shipping and handling process well. Shortly after, plates were discontinued, probably due to this issue.

Unless the printing process has improved, my guess is that we won’t be seeing plates on Zazzle’s inventory again.

I will pass on your feedback, thanks!

Such products would be great too! Good suggestion!

That’s interesting to know regarding the quality of the past dinner plates.

I remember I designed a lot of the Dinner Plates that we had here awhile back on both the Melamine and Porcelain. I loved designing on them also. They were both supposed to be for regular dinner use.

Which type dinner plate material did you purchase that you’re referring to regarding the quality of them?

Have been hoping for a long time Zazzle would bring back Dinnerware Plates (and also add Salad/Dessert Plates). Zazzle has several other types of dinnerware items, and we need actual dinner plates to accompany patterns and collections. Same as the department stores have all these options to make a set pattern.

They were porcelain salad plates. They were really beautiful and the colors printed great. If they could refine and improve the printing, I’d give them another try. But adding printing after the plates are fired is probably a tricky process.

Oh ok. Thank you because it helps to know which material type had the problem with Melamine or Porcelain plates. I personally never ordered either type from here so didn’t know. But that’s a shame.

Yes, you’re correct they were for wall hanging also, and I did remember that (which I also have some older decorative plates from elsewhere years ago still on my walls, as does my mother different types and all are beautiful).

The ones Zazzle used to carry are listed below. And for Porcelain it’s recommended for serving pre-cut food only. So guess they knew no cutting on their plates. Never had a dinner plate before that you couldn’t do that with.

Wonder why Zazzle got rid of the Melamine Plates because it was good they said non-toxic too!

-- Just looked because I still have some hidden of both type plates, and the Porcelain came in sizes 8.5" and 10.75".

Zazzle Mods: It’s been a number of years now since Zazzle stopped carrying plates such as this. Still hoping they can get good quality actual dinnerware plates like many stores have had for years with designs on them, and all of them you can cut your food on. Can they look into getting this type to design on? That would be very nice to make set patterns of bowls, salad/dessert plates, cups, bigger bowls, etc. And maybe there’s companies to partner with that have box sets of the different types of items, such as this type of variety of plates, bowls, mugs, etc. that are white to design on and sell as a box set, like department stores have always done. I had a box set pattern shipped to me years ago from a major department store and luckily all items were ok, and they were packed very sturdy in the dinnerware box itself too. Just a thought.

I believe they were melamine plates. I don’t recall having real plates. But I think plates would be good to have.

Yes, Zazzle used to have the Porcelain and Melamine Plates available during the same time. I still have some hidden of both, so was able to copy and paste their descriptions above.

Would love to have actual dinner plates, etc. to eat on like normal everyday quality, durable plates that can also go in the microwave and dishwasher, like a lot of other designers over the years have also asked fior.

It’s like the Big Missing Piece to their product line for years now (and to dinnerware Collections)- to compliment their mugs, soup and chili bowls, teapots, etc. Paper plates just don’t always cut it, when you’re using these other matching dinnerware items you want “real plates” on the table setting, along with those other items. Customers must wonder too where the dinner plates are that match the designs they may like, and why there’s also no salad/dessert plates, etc. at Zazzle, when they see the other items offered for sale for the table settings. It’s an investment buying matching dinnerware items, and without the main pieces not sure how many people would bother getting any.
