Can someone enlighten me about possible designer guidelines on Zippo Lighters. I’ve been stopped twice with no clear reason as to what the problem was. Neither design was out of the G rating, not a trademark/copyright thing.

I remember I had one rejected because the image looked too much like a cartoon character (can’t remember which one it was now). I imagine, Zazzle wants to make sure Zippo lighters are not sold as toys or gifts for kids.
I had a couple of Designs on the Zippo rejected as well and the only reason I can take away is that they were too cartoonish ( though not a cartoon).
I had one rejected because I used a public domain image on it. I was told Zippo lighters must not contain any elements of anything which is not original.

Cartoonish designs are definitely a no-go for lighters as well as matches, btw. Do lighters even sell? I have one or two in my store but I’ve never made a sale.
Yep, and here is a link to one on the Zippo website that looks like something from the kids show Monsters Inc. or Sesame Street. Lol. They also have football and auto designs. Hot wheels and other cars are a kids favorite and they learn the logos and names that way.

I had created a couple zippo lighters (politically themed) a while back that got approved and then I sold a couple of them and then they were rejected and deleted; I was not very happy.

I know zippo is an official brand so not only do our designs have to pass zazzle but also zippo. Many designs have been turned away because they might seem to cater to children and they don’t want that. Not sure about Zippos stance on political things.

I created two lighters focused on the saxophone. The cartoonish one here was accepted and has since sold without issue. However, the one I designed with a simple saxophone on it was rejected. My conclusion is that we have no real way of knowing. I never, by the way, got an answer on why a cartoon that might attract children was okay while another that pictured a simple musical instrument wasn’t.

Confusing indeed, I’ve had one with just a saxophone sell.

Guess the approval process is subjective, depends whose looking at the art at the time.
And, apparently, zippo has a good audience of sax players; I’ll have to put some of my sax images on there and see if it flies, lol.
