Designing a product with 'no collaborate' that can have a changeable text layer.

I am not in favor of using my art in collaborating with anyone, therefore, I choose NO for 'Customize It' . Can I set a layer for customers to only insert/change text?  if so, how do I do that?

A template can be an image or text you insert as a placeholder for the customer to exchange with their own image or text. For instance, I have a class reunion postcard with a photo of my high school graduating class that customers exchange with their own class photo. My photo is called an "image template." On the back of the postcard is a sample of the invitation text with date, time, place, and how to rsvp. It's called a "text template" and is where customers can replace the text with their own. They can do this right on the product's display page. To turn either an image layer or text layer in the design tool, look at the bottom of the screen on the right where you can turn on "Allow editing on the product page."

No, customers can't post their version for sale because Zazzle blocks them from doing so. There will be no sell-it button for them.

Collaboration is different. You’d have to accept someone’s request to enter a collaboration.

As PenguinPower says, collaboration and customization are different animals. If you really want to give the customer the ability to only change text but nothing else in the product, you can lock all layers using the icon that looks like a lock on each layer, not doing this on the text layers, making sure to set them as templates. However, it's my impression that most customers don't go into the design tool to fiddle with images. Also, you can possibly lose a sale to a customer who wants to move one of the images. It's up to you, of course, but my vote is to allow customers to do whatever they please because they're very unlikely to do much, if anything at all.

Thank you Colorwash. I was selling on Zazzle many years ago prior to that 'MAJOR Change' in the process. I had so many products I ended up deleting them all, having run out of time to get them Re-created before the deadline. Thanks for your help. Your answer leads me to another issue. What is a template and will the use of them allow the customer to post their version for sale with my images?

Nothing allows a customer to post your images for sale, not even collaborations. If someone is pirating your goods they have to be using a different means than the Zazzle platform- like screen grabbing.

That is a very good explanation. THANK YOU ALL! I see I have some work to do in my remaking  many products..... I remember how helpful everyone was when I used to sell here. Particularly you Colorwash, I recognized your name. Happy to see you are still here.

I can see you sent me a message on Chat, but unfortunately I can't verify my account in order to answer you because I'm not receiving their text code, something I know happens with my phone. My provider appears to consider Zazzle's text as spam. (Sigh.)
