how to make "Personalize this design" instead "edit this design"

It's not something you control, Zazzle does it automatically. When you're looking at your own design the button reads "edit this design." When a customer views your design (or when you look at a design made by another creator) it says "personalize this design."

I've always thought it displays "Personalize this Design" only if the design includes any template fields in which case clicking the button opened the template panel on the product page, and "Edit Design" if there are no templates, in which case clicking the button opened the Design Tool.
I just clicked some random products from the MP that had text that could have been template text or graphic text and oh my, what a freaking mess, can't tell if something is/was supposed to be a template field or not. Ugh!!! So I went to my own store via an anon not-signed-in browser where I know which products have template fields and which don't. And the above proved true. Products where I have no template fields on them show an "Edit Design" button. Products I have included template fields on show a "Personalize this Design" button.

With all the madness happening with the changes to the customer interface, YMMV.

Of course! Somehow it never occurred to me that her fields weren't templates. Now it makes sense. Of course, with all of the new versions of the design tool - do templates even matter anymore? I'm pretty confused about all of that and honestly too overwhelmed to try to do much study about it all.

You're right! I just checked one of your products and it says "edit this design." Zazzle must have changed something. Either way, it's not something you can control.

BTW, in looking at your store I noticed a lot of duplicate products with different names. I'm not sure, but I have the hunch that Zazzle might frown on this practice. I'm not sure how the search algorithm would react to that, but in general I think you're better off just trying to use the keywords to include whatever search terms you might think are appropriate rather than creating duplicate products with different keywords and titles.

Oh, I see... so the artwork is all slightly different as well as the keywords and titles.  I guess I can see how you might show up in more search results that way, but I would think that you'd end up watering down your results - like one product with 50 sales would probably yield much better results in the search algorithm than 50 products with one sale each, but maybe I'm wrong. That's an interesting strategy.
