How to set product to personalize the name but not change the design itself?

I do not know the difference between "make product a template" vs "show customize button", with that said, If I want to let the customer change a name but not change the design itself, do I say NO on "make product a template and Yes on "show customize button?" Or, set it for both yes to change and yes to customize. I set the name for text 1 and set the design to "not make this a template object." I just don't know how to set up before posting.

Please explain with an example for each, when I would:

1. Say yes on both "make product a template" and "show customized button."

2. Only allow "make product a template"

3. Only allow "show customize button"

Thanks for any information you can give me to help clear this up for me!

Given that the Zazzle platform is all about being able to customize and personalize, you're best off giving customers what they've come here for. The only thing I freeze--and it's rare--is when customizing part of the design will mess up things so badly that the customer will give up and walk away. A framing layer can be like this, so I'll lock it. Allow people to alter all text whenever possible, and if you have a placeholder image, you absolutely must turn it into a template. And for sure, allow customization. What if you have a poster the size of which isn't what the customer wants? What if the one they want squeezes or cuts off the image? If they can't customize, they can't fix the problem and you've lost the sale.
