Why are Manual Pinterest Pins Being Overwritten With Zazzle Default Pinterest Descriptions & Titles?

On July the 31st  2024 ColsCreations posted a thread titled Pinterest Pins - Custom Description & Title Reverting to Zazzle's Default here on the Zazzle forum. It seems that ColsCreations has recently made some manual pins which have been overwritten. Meaning ColsCreations filled out all of the fields in the Create Pin dialogue box only to have the titles and descriptions replaced with Zazzle's default descriptions. I have noticed this as I have tried to perform Pinterest keyword, title and tag research for Pinterest to promote my own Zazzle store and product lines that the generic description seems to show up on all Zazzle pins. This is very frustrating and confusing when you consider the fact that many hours are spent trying to craft and create Manual Pinterest Pins only to find that the work being done is in vain. Furthermore Manual Pins unlike the pins Zazzle provides via the Share button are promotional tools one can use to stand out in the sea of sameness. Now all of the Zazzle pins look the same with the same titles and descriptions on Pinterest. It is my understanding that the only way to ensure that original Manual Pinterest Pins stay original is to link out to Zazzle collections as opposed to individual Zazzle products. I myself have NOT tested this out as I am still learning and trying to set up my Pinterest profile, boards etc.. I am still trying to to do the keyword research. Should we even bother to make manual pins? Finally if anyone on this forum could be so kind as to share how to create manual pins that link out to collections it would be appreciated. Has anyone else run into this issue on Pinterest in 2024? Is there a workaround for this? What if a pin contains all original video or mock up images that are not Zazzle mockups or videos? Will the custom titles and descriptions revert back to the Zazzle default? This affects all sellers and designers on Zazzle who promote on Pinterest remember.

I absolutely believe it's on Pinterest's end, too. If it were on Zazzle's end due to some behind-the-scenes meta page coding, then results would be consistent whether for better or worse. Zazzle is not constantly changing their source code so it's got to be Pinterest's own randomness that has pins changing minutes, days, months later and then changing again.

And an added benefit of linking first to your own blog/website is that you can avoid the "landing page" that way.

Create a pin image. Go to Pinterest and enter the pin creation area. Upload your image. Type in a title and description and add some tags. Copy over the link to the collection you are pinning. If it's your own collection, there should be a section something like this on the collection edit screen; press the chain image and copy the link.

Yes

Yes.

I do often write new descriptions and titles anyway because you can still see them when you go in to edit, so I figure it's possible the algorithm will still recognize and prioritize my manual pins in the feed.

Badeesie Thanks for your response to my question regarding how to create manual pins that link out to collections. You also stated in your response that you often write new descriptions and titles because you can see them in edit and there is a possibility the Pinterest algorithm will recognize and prioritize manual pins in the feed. Meaning that the pins will NOT be overwritten and will retain the descriptions and titles? The reason I ask is that it is time consuming, frustrating and counter productive to fill out the metadata (titles, descriptions and tags) for manual pins only to have them overwritten with generic Zazzle generated descriptions. I myself have seen many pins for Zazzle products that now have these generic descriptions and frankly it looks off and makes the pins less appealing. In closing I also read the only way to remedy this is to create manual pins that link out to a website or blog. I sincerely hope this thread helps others who may or may not run into this while promoting their Zazzle products and collections on Pinterest. Thanks again Badeesie.

There is currently no way to keep the linked pin from reverting to Zazzle's descriptions except like you mentioned, linking them to an outside blog or website.  Unfortunately there are multiple threads on the forum discussing this with no  answer, but you can go back and read them just for general info.  I think this is one of the newest and has good info where she dug into the issue.

I do believe it is on Pinterest's end, though I obviously can not know for sure.

Thank you all for your responses. They are needed and appreciated. Anyone reading this thread please take note. That if you are making manual pins for your Zazzle products and you want to ensure that your metadata (Manual Pin Titles and Descriptions do NOT revert to the dreaded default Zazzle titles and descriptions) then you must create Manual Pins that link out to your own website or blog. Meaning that the Pin link destination needs to go directly to a website or blog which contains direct links to your Zazzle products. As ColsCreations pointed out there is an added benefit to this as potential customers will be redirected to your products NOT the dreaded Zazzle landing page which only serves to detract from what you have to offer as the landing page shows product designs by other designers and shopkeepers. I hope this all makes sense. Thanks again to everyone who responded to my questions. I am accepting ColsCreations response as a solution. However that does not mean the other responses are NOT valued, needed and appreciated because they are. I myself have a WIX website which I will link my pins out to with in my blogs section. Will keep everyone posted. Right now my my site and Zazzle store and product lines are in development as I am still learning myself. Thanks again.

I'm glad to see the respondents concur with the advice I gave you a couple of days ago as noted here 🙂

Linking out from blog/website as I advised comes with the caveat we are creating more steps for the customer to follow before they reach the sales page, which is never ideal. Good luck with your Pinning moving forward.
