Hi, I was creating my first product (wall clock) when in the side window I notice a warning that says: "California Residents: Prop 65 Disclaimer Warning
WARNING: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. "I would like to know if this can happen when in direct contact with the part and if it represents a real danger to the consumer,
Thanks.

Hi @PierAlessi,
I moved this question to it's own thread in the relevant topic as it was unrelated to the original thread. Thank you!

(This subject should probably have been presented in a separate thread.)
California has such a warning for an incredibly long list of products that are believed to cause cancer. They aren't necessarily "known" to cause cancer. At this point, most consumers ignore the Prop 65 Warning.

Other things that California will warn you causes cancer.... potato chips, coffee, amusement parks, wood, pumpkin pie....
wolf, wolf, wolf... (yeah, wolves probably somehow give you cancer too)

EVERYTHING is "known to the state of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm!" Even chocolate and other common foods! The rest of the world can purchase these products with no problems, so I don't bother worrying about the small percentage of CA residents who actually CARE what their dumb state says! I'm sure companies HAVE to put that on their products for legal reasons, but that doesn't mean there's actually any truth to it.

I should be kinder to California.... really what appears to have happened is that exploitative lawyers got a hold of what was meant to be a good law (keep drinking water sources in the state clean) and twisted it so that they could begin to sue anyone and everyone who's manufactured product didn't carry the proper warning labels for anything that is vaguely thought to be a contributory factor in the growth of cancers (ie. force feeding mice large quantities of it will cause tumors in mice...) - which turns out means pretty much everything, including oxygen. If there was someone to sue over not labeling the aging process properly, there would have been a law suit... It's turned the whole idea of keeping (actual) dangerous chemicals out of the water people are drinking into a farce that people have simply learned to ignore.

As others have said, half of the products I purchase have that warning on them. Unless someone is planning on eating the wall clock, or spending large portions of every day licking it, I sincerely doubt it's something worth worrying about.

sadly enough, the shortbread cookies made by maker Modern Bite *do* carry the California Prop 65 warning. 😪

Holy Moly! I wonder which ingredient triggered the warning!

It may not even be an ingredient ... I wonder if the packaging might be the culprit?
Interestingly enough, maker Veronica's Treats does not carry that warning for its sugar cookies!

Maybe it's anything with food dye in it. Some people are sensitive to it.

Thanks for your replies, I don't eat at the possible, gluten, milk and sugar, these food are responsible of a lot of tumors, specially in women. About my question I would feel well selling dangerous products but nothing is perfect in this world.

They have nice weather in California.
In Greenland it's so cold that even the lawyers have their hands in their own pockets.

"In Greenland it's so cold that even the lawyers have their hands in their own pockets."
That's hilarious. (If you don't already), you should have that on a shirt, poster, or box sign!

Thanks for the tip - I've done the t-shirt and the poster - never thought about a box sign.
