White thread in Embroidery?

I want to have a hat embroidered and am creating a design I want.  However, the white in the design always turns transparent when I load the design.

Now I fully understand why it does that for printing, but it makes no sense for embroidery. Do they not use white thread? Why wouldnt they? Wouldnt it just be the same as any other colored thread? It is just white! If the machine can switch to a red thread, why cant it switch to a white thread?

Since I cannot see a logical reason why it wouldnt use white, I cannot help but wonder if I am doing something wrong. Does anyone have any ideas?

Just to be clear, I need this to be a BMP file because a large part of the design needs to be transparent. Its just one part of it I need white.

I think there’s a setting in the design tool that says, “Preserve White.” I’ve never used it, but maybe that’s the purpose of that option.

Thanks for replying, but I just figured out what was wrong. Im stupid. lol  I had not created any files in a while and for some reason I was thinking it was the .bmp files that saved transparency. I need to save it as a .png file.  lol
