Kaspersky users in the U.S.

The Kaspersky virus checker has been banned in the U.S., the full ban taking place in September. This means you'll stop getting updates of any kind, including whatever the newest threats might be. Time to plan ahead.

Kaspersky has been in hot water for many years. I remember when I got a computer from Best Buy I remembered Kaspersky was supposed to be a good antivirus. Asked about it because it wasn't on the shelves and the employees told me Best Buy refuses to carry it because it's very questionable. I thought it had been banned a long time ago.

As far as I know, there's never been a problem with it other than that it was created by Russians. It was banned by the federal government because they believe it might be used as spyware, not that it has been. Regardless, anyone using it has to now scramble to find a good virus checker. I uninstalled it and downloaded Avast, which immediately reminded me of why I got rid of that software in the first place. It froze my computer by downloading something I didn't want.
