Problem with Microsoft Clipchamp Video Editor

This is a longshot, but I figured I'd ask just in case anybody else is using Clipchamp and might have the answer. So, I'm having a weird problem where I can't grab and move an image on the artboard.

Not sure how to explain the problem exactly, but here's a screenshot.

So, I've got the layer in question highlighted, and it appears with the green borders. I can grab one of the dots on the corners and resize it, but if I try to move the image it switches the focus to the text layer above and I can't move the image. (Can't move the text layer above either)

Oddly, I can move the background layer below the invitation with no problem, but I can't move the layer with the invitation image.

I've tried on several other projects, and I get the same problem. I can move the bottom layer with no problem, just can't move any of the other layers. This is a new problem, so I'm not sure if there's a bug in their software, or if I've got some setting wrong or what.

I haven't had any luck searching the interwebs, but maybe somebody out there has better Google Foo than I do!

If anybody has any insights, I'd be grateful!

BTW, I'm using the free version that comes with Windows 11.

@Cat

Can you not grab both the text layer and image up one layer and see if that helps?

Or open the project in the web browser version (could be a windows 11 thing)

I am of no help (sorry) windows 10 gal 😂

Ummm... well, I fear I may be too dense to understand your suggestion! But I tried moving the image up a layer and it didn't change anything.

I did figure one thing out. The reason I can move the background layer is that it extends beyond the artboard - so I can grab the part that sticks out beyond the edge of the artboard. If I try to grab it inside the artboard it does the same thing as the invitation layer. Soooo... I enlarged the invitation layer so it would extend beyond the artboard and then I can move it around, but of course, it's bigger than I want it that way, so then I have to resize it again and it's just super clumsy.

I honestly don't know if I'm using the web browser version or what. I tried the "chat" help thing, but I don't know if it was an actual human or if it was AI - she (it) said to try installing the app, which would imply that the Windows 11 version is the online version? Maybe? Gah! I'm not interested in paying another subscription so I guess I'll do some research.

Anyhow, do you have the same problem in whatever version you're using, or can you grab and move stuff within the artboard?

@Cat I only created one with a image and text overlay and could resize by grabbing the corner dots. But I hadn't added a background - I was seeing if i could figure out your problem

In the text tab (right hand side) with your text layer selected - chose the bottom middle square to move your text layer then click on your image layer to resize then move the text layer back to where it was (using the grid) Maybe? (hope that made sense - could be that the size of the text box layer is interfering somehow) I don't know 🤣😂

The browser version I was using  https://app.clipchamp.com/  but you can download the app to your computer by going to https://clipchamp.com/en/windows-video-editor/ (it's a free download - no subscription) but you do have to have a Microsoft account to login and use it on your computer. (that's a newish thing) you can use any email to use it in a browser.

I recently downloaded capcut (free to use -part of TikTok https://www.capcut.com/ ) and that's a very similar easy drag and drop make a video with text so maybe try that. There's a free version that pretty does everything - no need to pay anything.

I've tried davinci resolve - steep learning curve and a tad overkill for a slideshow video.

I wanted an easy video maker that's on my computer that I don't have to upload my assets to.

Still making promos so not really got on the video train yet.

Ooooo.... thanks for all of the info! I try some of those suggestions and if I find anything meaningful I'll report back for everyone's benefit!

@Cat I do use the free version of ClipChamp on my Windows 11 laptop. It's been ages since I've created videos, so I'll see if I can replicate your issues.

ClipChamp can be glitchy, too. However, what I've experienced is apparently not on the same level of frustration as yours!
