Are we being Ranked by the new forum?

PacifierCity
Valued Contributor II

Currently I am a Visitor.  A few others are New Contributers.  Why?  Is there a way to hide this?  Is there info posted somewhere about the different classifications of users, what they mean and how to "achieve" a certain classification?

Thanks,

PC

I was a visitor yesterday and most of today. Just awhile ago that changed to New Contributor. I hope Z doesn't release info on how to achieve new classifications because the forums will soon into a mess.

I've posted in the new forum a few times and saw my status change from Visitor to New Contributor under my Notifications feed. Click on your icon to see more interesting stats!

So yes we are being ranked and there doesn't seem to be a way to hide this, nor have I found any info describing what's required to rank up to the next levels.

I was at least able to get rid of the Kudos. They are very nice, but I was finding myself looking at who was getting the most kudos. That kind of obsession is not why I am at Zazzle, so I wiped them off in my settings.

Come on over to the dark side.

On other forums, the member's level of activity (and likes, or "kudos" as being used here) will change the member's status. So, posting more, replying more, etc.   I'm just guessing it's working the same here.

I saw someone that was a "Visitor II". I looked at their profile and they have only been reading posts. So even people that aren't contributing will see some changes to their status.

So what comes after "New Contributor"? And does that mean there will no longer be any "Pro" status on the forums"

I was going to suggest the rank changed from Visitor to New Contributor whenever you post your first reply. But alas, that little idea failed when I noticed Angela and waterart still have Visitor rank - as will I presumably, when I post this. Maybe it just needs a few replies. Exciting changes to the forum though; looks really good, and clean! 😀

First, I thought the classification would stand for the type of forum user you are, e.g. visitor for guests, later on perhaps "Creator" for us designers, "Admin" for admins, etc., but it seems it's based on your activity status like in many other forums - the more active you are, the higher you rise in "ranks".

In regard to the "Kudos", I was a bit "huh" at first, then I realized it's nothing more than regular likes, and I've started using it as such, either to show my agreement with a post, to give a "thumbs up", or to let the poster know I read a reply without writing further replies. I missed this on the old forums (especially for thanking a mod without having to waste their time with a "thank you" reply) and I think it's a big improvement. I also like the "problem solved/solution" feature.

Had to smile about the kudos ranking and I admit I look at it for fun and curiosity, and that's it. If someone takes this seriously or as a sort of status symbol, then sorry, we're in a forum, where some may write more and some less, not in an arena or Miss Universe competition. In this regard, I had also to grin when I've seen that the kudos/like button is disabled on your own posts - nothing is more ridiculous and unprofessional than liking your own posts, and it's funny that you have to take such measures to educate some people to use their common sense.

All in all, I like the new forum, and I like how Zazzle focuses on a strong community with all the pros (help & feedback) and cons (criticism and debates) this brings.

I see I'm a "Visitor II" as well. Is there a reason for this?

Never mind, I guess you have to respond to something 1st. Which I did before this last post. I would love to delete both of these, or even edit, but it's not working when I try to do either. Oh well. lol

I seem to be stuck at Valued Contributor.  For awhile it seemed that it was the amount of time that you had belonged to the community... ie, people that joined the same day as I all moved up to the next level.  But once we hit Valued Contributor, that has changed.  There are a few people that changed status when I did that have gone on to Valued Contributor II and III.  But not me.  I do wonder why, but I'm not going to fret about it.  Just seems odd that I seem to be left behind...lol.  The story of my....  Anyway... sounds like whining.  All I can do is be me and if I am not getting to the next level... so be it.  I'm good with Valued Contributor.

Cheers

I have no idea what the forum ranking system means or which contributor status is higher ( contributor, I, II, III, ??) and I don't care unless they will have an effect on sales

I think the various designations are just a bit of foolishness that's part of the forum software, not something Zazzle designed but simply enabled.
